Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Hi all,
Just a question and wondering what your thoughts are.
Have been chatting with a friend and also a work colleague who have had family stay in Greece and they were saying how reasonable the prices were, ie €12 for a meal and a few drinks per person.
This is similar to what we paid this year In Icmeler, so is Turkey on a whole upping their prices to get them selves in line with Europe before joining the euro zone, or is due to how quiet it is, and the high cost of flights preventing a lot of people from going, that the prices are simply getting higher due to how quiet it's been this year?

The prices everywhere else are getting cheaper due to the eurozone being on its ar*e. I went to Greece last year and the prices were much higher than the ones being quoted. Probably 50% higher.

It seems flights are expensive no matter where you go, its a sad fact of life called inflation and our comrades at OPEC artificially inflating oil prices for any reason possible.

The eurozone countries have enjoyed charging over inflated prices for a number of years but have had to reduce prices to compete with the non euro countries as tourists are voting with their feet and not going.

If its a non tourist place it probly would be cheaper, the menu maybe quite limted and if off the beaten track you would need a car
We did a short S/C break in Furtventura a few years ago
sunbeds 5 euros 4 hour boat trip 50euros , there was a few 12 euro place but if you a big eater wouldnt touch the sides kids / oaps meals, fish supper on the road home, drink was cheap 5 euro 3 bottles bud, supermarket same as here more or less, short taxi journey, 10 mins 5 euros
Spent a £700 , 2 adults a couple off drinks at night, have steered clear ever since will only go to non euro places

I went for 17 nights this year 3 of us spent £1800 no trips just food drinks which I thought alot money , flights £930 apt £425 and then transfer £120 then £30 visa total spend approx £3300 for 3 of us in high season , next year off gran canaria 14 nights in aug 4 of us £2700 all incl so for me it's in line with other euro countries and flights 4 hours to euro countries same price turkey hopefully I be over in may if price right

Depends were you want to eat and drink,I spent £900 in 17 days for the two of us.
Ate out every lunchtime with a couple of pints,also had meals every night in several different Restaurents,followed by several pints of Efes in my favourite bar,the wife having a couple of rounds of BOGOF brandy and lemonade.
We did two trips this year,the Akyaka trip and also a boat trip to Amos,Kumbuluk and several bays.
It all depends on were you choose to eat and drink and of course the type of meal you want to eat, be it steak or chicken etc.

we spent £100 on presents and about £180 on cigs and baccy in the airport.
Flights cost me £460 including all charges.
Apartment £320.
Transfare £100.
Entered Turkey on the visa I purchased in June

So the cost of my "All Inclusive Holiday" was £890.0 each not including airport purchases.

Whatever you spend just make sure you enjoy the holiday because it has been well earned.

No Chris, I don't think Icmeler's following the Euro price route.
I believe some things have gone up generally including tax on cigarettes, and the price of red meat. and that it's just inflation like anywhere else - won't even go there about the extortionate price of soft drinks in bars though!!!
Have to say that we've not personally felt the full effect of the increases though cos the TL has been good value against sterling this year and last year - we used to generally get 2.50 ish to the £ for a few years on the trot, but last year and this, it's been around 2.75/2.80
Thinking again though, maybe this shift in the exchange rate it partially due to the "price" increases we've seen?

i dont think that its following the euro zone prices
im just back from 4 weeks in ankara and balikesir which is 2 hours north of izmir and the prices were much cheaper there
its for the tourists for example in bodrum and marmaris that the prices are increased as the tourists needs are catered for
spoke to a guy from work and he said last night that him and his friends went to ibiza for a week and he spent 1100 euros only on spending money
to me this is crazy and for the value and quality of food and service the price is still low compared to other countries in my opinion

I do not believe that Icmeler is following a trend with prices. I have been for 2 seperate weeks so far, this one coming being my 3rd. The first one I spent £400 and the second I spent £300. Both times I went on a boat trip and a turkish bath. Ate breakfast, lunch and dinner out and drank more the second week than I did the first so all good.
I am taking £300 this time with a little more just in case. I plan on eating out and drinking every day so if I run out I'll be devastated.

Interesting thread...... I have been looking for weeks at average food, drink and trip costs, and trying to budget for me, the missus and the nipper. We arent loaded and have worked bloody hard for this holiday, so I intend to enjoy it whatever, but, I figured on approximately £150 per day for the three of us (we are there 10 days).

We are B and B at the Golmar, so we dont need to be eating breakfast out every day, though at £1 for a full English, no reason not to! We wont be drinking loads because we have nipper (12), so I think £150 per day for the three of us ought to be adequate. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

i think you will be bringing money home we were in icmeler in june spent less than 100 pound a day ate out every day drinks everyday and two trips this included buying gifts enjoy your well earned holiday

Thanks neecy, If I bring some back, so much the better Im figuring we will probably do a fair few trips to keep the nipper entertained, but I have pretty much much factored those in. I wish it was a week Sunday already!!

We were in Içmeler for 13 days, only did one trip (akyaka) and ate out for breakfast probably 5 of the 13 mornings, ate in the apartments on 3 evenings and didn't have expensive meals and we spent in total £1,700!!
And that only included buying 3 t-shirts, a belt and a £30 necklace for Anita (antique style, she's not into gold, lucky me
That was for 3 of us, but bearing in mind last year it was just me and Anita and we spent £1,000 and we ate out 3 times a day, paid for the beach nearly every day(only once this year) and we went to more expensive places for dinner and bought loads of clothes and an engagement ring or Anita and me an also a bracelet for me!

myself and my hubbie were in icmeler for 9 days at the start of September, we ate out everynight with a couple of drinks - sometime more than a couple of bogof cocktails lol, had a breakie and lunch out a few times, drinks by the pool most days, bought a few gifts back and cigarettes for hubbie and spent about £800 which I think was great. could have prob spent less and still have had a great time. there is no where in europe I know that you could get a starter(soup or meze), your main meal and icecream/coffee for between £6-£10 per person.
I speak to friends who go to the eurozone and when they tell my the cost of food and drink I know i would never be able to afford to go there unless I was AI which I dont fancy.

its like anywhere you go you can go find places that charge 3 lira effes 6 lira or 7.5 lira same euro countries 2 euro upto 7 euro pint same food like this year i had full english breakfast at champagne bar 6 lira then another day at beach front denis kapiz same breakfast 10 lira which still good value,i think this year spent alot due intake effes and cocktails but thats what i save up for all year

we are of to icmeler in 5 days, we went to side on the med coast last year. the last time we were in icmeler was 2010 i spoke to a fewturkish people, ie apartment owner and bar owners about turkey joining the euro and without exception, it was a resounding "no we hope turkey does not join the euro", the main reason i got was that if turkey joined the euro, prices would go up to the same as spain and france etc and then why would tourists come to turkey when they can travel closer to home and pay the same prices, cheaper flights etc

I just had 3 days in Rhodes

Spent 750 euro between 2 of us excluding duty free on the way back

hiya, you did ask for thought I think u budget should be ok,
we went B&B last yea and spent a whooping £150 on teas n coffees at the hotel, thats n the hotel alone not out and about, if u need a cuppa Isuggest bring a travel kettle
yes breakfast sometime can be had for £1 but add a coffee £1.50/£2.00 and fresh OJ an extra round off toast its soon £6
Beer pint for pint works out cheaper than soft drinks......if u going in Oct that when im going and if u stuck or have questions you could ask as ive been a few times

Reckon you're taking more than enough - went with my 16yr old daughter for 2.5 weeks and we were spending around £80 a day on average. That was eating out for every meal, and 3 boat trips a week.
As far as cheap English breakfasts go, you'll need to bear in mind that the drinks you have to go with them generally push the bill up a fair bit and also, soft drinks are as dear if not dearer than Efes
Am sure you'll be bringing some money home with you hahaha, esp as if you plan on buying clothes etc, the prices are generally lower towards the end of the season and some great bargains to be had if you haggle hard.

I would say that is more than enough and you will probably bring some home Myself, husband, daughter (13) and son (9)spent £1500 in 15 days (£100 a day). This included two trips, a few presents, supermarket shopping, cigarettes, 2 pairs of jeans, a couple of sweatshirts,T-shirts and shirts, eating out on average twice a day and plenty of Efes and soft drinks!

Brilliant, thanks for your thoughts everyone, and in particlar the mention of a travel kettle! I drink more than my fair share of coffee but it doesnt bother me to do without, the missus and her tea however.......

As for expensive soft drinks, looks like its Efes for breakfast
