Cost of flights!!

Postby Keith » 15 Sep 2012 12:38

Just been having a look at a few sites for prices next year in August. Two adults and one child
flythomasc--k £1242.94
Jet-com £1301.88
Thoms--- £1874.00
These companies are going to kill off folk organising their own holidays, and going self catering!! :(

Flying from Newcastle and in August next year JT. Would be willing to travel a bit furher afield if we can save some money. What really annoys me was sitting next to a guy from Gatehead coming back from Turkey this year and is telling us he only paid half what we had and got extra legroom seats for two for one, when we had paid £16 each.
If you can get us some cheap flights JT i would be more than happy to book through you :D
See,,, ive got a happy smilie face now!!

I'm afraid if you go in any school holidays may half term , August school holidays cost of flights are very expensive when our son leaves school then we can look outside these dates untill then I'm not going pay very expensive flights when we're in a economic mess the airlines have to get real

Terrible prices Keith. We have been looking too and they are a good £100 more than last years flights.
The youngsters were going to go too, but in July and the flights were even more then.
Caron only has the 2 weeks starting 15thJuly off uni together and they've decided not to go as they can't afford it.
Think all we can do is keep looking :( :(

We normally go september but the flights this year are so high we actually could of got cheaper the end of august i think the Airlines have cottoned on that people wait till the children have gone back to school so no september holiday for us this year

I think the main problem is that we have been spoilt. We have got used to very cheap flights and expect them all the time. They are no longer available in the quantities they were because the Airlines that provided them have all gone bust. Airlines have to charge more just to keep afloat, there will be some bargains but not many. It actually costs airlines extra fuel to put a bum on a seat that otherwise would be empty. The cost of the extra fuel has to be paid for plus the cost of providing the service, checkin, luggage handling etc. So I think you will find that many airlines would prefer an empty seat or two than fill them at minus the actual cost. It doesn't work the same as a theatre or stadium as their costs are fixed.
As for the costs of flights going up and down that's all down to market forces. I'm not saying 'as a consumer' that it is right but it is the way all business operates. If they didn't they wouldn't be in business.

Totally agree with you silverbeard, however IMHO there was simply no justification for the obscene prices TC and others were charging last year in the immediate aftermath of Aegean going bust! I really can't believe there is any justification at all for the exorbitant prices that were charged, especially when it was highly likely people who were booking those flights were the same poor souls who'd already forked out for the flights with Aegean - talk about hitting people when they were down!
I'd be interested to know whether the flight prices to Dalaman are comparable to other destinations with the same flight durations?!
Have to say that I do feel we are being fleeced for flights to Turkey now and that flight prices could still be viable for the airlines if they were lower - not the bargain bucket prices we became used to, but just more reasonable
