Dutch ID Card Holders/Visas

Postby Lynne W » 06 Sep 2012 12:35

My daughter's boyfriend wants to come to Icmeler with us in October, he is a Dutch Citizen and has lived in the UK for about 12 years. He doesn't have a current Passport but has a valid Dutch ID Card & I understand from various website information that this can be used for travel to EU Countries as well as Turkey. Can anyone confirm if this is correct and advise the Visa requirements at Dalaman airport? Will he be allowed entry & be able to pay the Tourist Visa & if so how much is it and what happens as regards the Visa Stamp as there is no passport to be stamped (like our UK Passports), just the ID Card.
Thanks

I'm no expert but as far as I know, if a European citizen leaves Europe then he would need a passport

Hello,
Yes its correct he can entry Turkey with his Id card.
on the backside of the card are the countries you can visit with it and Turkey is one of them.
We went several times to Turkeywith our son and he travels with his id card to .
He will get his visa on a special paper be sure to keep this safe or he has a problem when he wants to go back home.

If I was him I would get in touch with an official source and get it in writing to take along in case of anyone at Dalaman not knowing, I am British and there was a slight error on my ticket a few years ago and it took a long time and several officials before they would let me board the plane. It really was an ordeal so I would not take any chances as some of them at Dalaman may not be aware of the regulations.

If the new visa regulations are anything to go by then I would say that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing
