Icmeler October 19th onwards - what's it like?

Postby dn852k4 » 03 Sep 2012 13:20

We're considering going to Icmeler during the half term holidays at the end of October (as my girlfriend works in a school).
What would Icmeler be like in terms of; weather - is it still hot? restaurants - will many still be open? Trips/excursions - will they still be operating? Is it worth going or would it be a bit of a ghost town at this time of year?

We go every October but always leave about 17th, even so the last two years we have had several days of rain and cold nights. Nearly all of the restaurants and hotels have closed down by then, those that are left are too tired to really be bothered and just want to go home to sleep the next two months away. Our daughter did go for the halfterm week a couple of years ago and although she loves Icmeler was so disappointed, nowhere to go, all our friends in the restaurants gone home and to make matters worse it rained every day of the week, she said" never again". Sorry if this upsets you but its best to know before you decide.

I agree with Silverfox's post above. I have been going to Icmeler in October (usually for the 2nd annual visit) for over 10 years now and enjoyed the quietness and of slowly seeing just a very few places closing or getting ready to close at the end of October and lovely warm days and nights just a bit chilly, just needing a cardigan or pashmino but the last two Octobers I have been the days were not too favorable weatherwise and the nights were absolutely freeezing also there were many places closing down early, even a good few apartments who still had guests staying there closed their restaurants and bars. It was like they had just given up for the year and couldn't be bothered any more. I too said I will never again go in October. And I won't.

We did about that time last year, wouldn't do it again. Days were warm, evenings were freezing, and the sun has disappeared behind the mountains by 5pm, that's not so bad if you're appropriately dressed for it, just don't make the mistake like I did of just having cotton maxi dresses and sandals! It's incredibly quiet, again quite nice, but each day there were less and less places to go to as they were closing down. Some bargains to be had shopping, but that's not really enough to keep you going when you're trying to find a bar with a roaring fire come evening!

We've been a few times in October and love it for what it is - nothing like summer atmosphere-wise and hit/miss with the weather, though have to say we were lucky and only saw an odd shower here and there

We share the same views as sue6259. For us it's a great last chance to experience Icmeler, and see it going to sleep for the WInter

The only downside I have is the lack of hot water in the apartments - so much so that I went to the hairdressers just so my hair would be washed in water hotter than stone cold!!

Its a waste of holiday time and money to go at that time of the year. As all the posts say, Icmeler has more or less closed down by then. The latest we have been is the first week of October and even that was too quiet for us, and we love Icmeler!!!

We used to go the middle 2 weeks in October but decided to go the first 2 weeks as more and more places closed down early.
Last year we left on October 10th and the apartments were closing that day.
As the school holidays are late this year and many schools not breaking up until 26th October I doubt if many places will be open this late.

We agree with Sue and Fanny its a last chance to enjoy the place we love....was there in early April and was very quiet things were just starting to open and the weather was hit and miss but it was lovely being able to walk about and see the things we dont see in Aug when its roasting hot and to be honest a break away from work and everyday chores is great regardless of the weather :D

We went the last 2 weeks of october last year, and it was lovely. The days were warm enough for the beach, and at night we just put on a jacket. Most of the restaurants have huge heaters that you really don't want to sit too close to, and Charlie's has a real fire. We had some rain, but we spent many a happy hour chatting to bar and restaurant staff who are usually too busy to sit and chat for long. By the last week, a lot of the restaurants and bars had closed, but there were still enough open that we didn't have a problem finding somewhere to eat or drink. There was a problem with hot water, but we eventually got the receptionist in the apartments to switch the boiler on in the late afternoon if it hadn't been very hot. It took some persuading, but he did it. Personally, I enjoy it when it's quieter, but each to their own. If you're the kind who wants 24 hr entertainment, Icmeler in late october isn't the place to be.
