Our problem on holiday explained.

Postby Chris221273 » 26 Aug 2012 10:43

Firstly I would like to point out that in no way was our problem we had to do with the Senem apartments.
My review in the holiday review section is simply our personal thoughts on the apartments.

The problem we had was one night we were being followed by what one can only assume to be kerb crawlers, who heckled my 15 year daughter.
Undoubtedly not Turkish lads, as they'd have been at work and are not like that.
It just put the wind up us a bit and left us on edge, but nobody was hurt, which is the main thing.
I just wanted people to be aware that's all, so everyone stays safe in lovely Icmeler.
These things can happen anywhere in the world, but I think when on holiday we all let our guard down a bit.
So be safe people, and enjoy your holidays.

The moral here is always been on your guard wherever you are

People from all over thw world holiday in Turkey and from all walks of life

People drive from European countries including Bulgaria Macedonia etc just to name a few which are all close and of course from other parts of Turkey

If you see anything that is worrying you then stop a policeman or stop at a bar and report to owner what you saw and get them to call police

Good advice JT. Chris told me about what had happened while they were there and it is a little worrying especially when I like to go there on my own sometimes. I have never felt intimidated while in Icmeler and I hope I never do. I am always aware of my surroundings and if I felt in danger I would make sure and head to a restaurant or bar where I know someone.

We have always told our daughters to use the main streets only, do not use the unlit streets running through the centre where they are badly lit and very few buildings, if in doubt walk into the nearest shop, bar, restaurant and ask then to call a taxi.

I've only had one bad experience in Icmeler. It was late on and I went to the toilet in, what was, the Korsan Bar. As I came out the toilets a Turkish/Kurdish man was going in the gents but then turned and grabbed my arm as if to try and take me into to toilets!! I managed to get my arm free and returned to my table, I waited for him to come out of the toilets and told Mehmet what had happened and pointed him out.

Mehmet was so apologetic and promised he would never be allowed in the bar again or in any other bar in Icmeler, don't know how true the second part was but I never saw the man for the rest of the holiday.

I guess I'm just agreeing with what others have said and just be aware of your surroundings and if you feel uncomfortable try to get to somewhere or someone you know.

Eatock, yes I have to admit though I've said I've never felt intimidated, I did have a slightly scary experience when I stayed at a certain apartments complex in the old village. One of the staff took a shine to me and as I was holidaying alone, took it upon himself to walk me to my room.
Though this was a nice gesture, he proceeded to push his way into my apartment. I asked him to leave and and luckily after asking twice over, he did. Not sure if anyone higher up got wind of it but he didn't work there after that night.

Similar experience as yourself in a reataurant, I was walking to the ladies, a man was going to the gents as I was coming out. He smiled, I smiled. He then grabbed his groin and was like 'you want some of this lady'? It was quite laughable really because I just chuckled and said I don't think so and walked off.

When I told JT about the guy at the apartments, he was like, you should have told me when it happened. I didn't want to as I hadn't booked with him so I felt guilty. I can tell you, if anything like that were to happen again, its JT I'll be telling.

It's quite shocking when it happened because you really don't expect it but goes to show it can happen anywhere. I'd be scared if that happened to me at the apartments but I am a wimp!!

Started going alone myself but sticking to where I know for the moment ha ha

I know what you mean. I'm going on my own next year because this does not put me off to be fair. Though where I stay will remain the same as always as I know the owner and all of the restaurants I go to offer the pick up service. The apartments where this happened I would not stay at again and not just for this reason. The restaurant, again, I think this was a one off thing.
I don't want to have to feel that I can't walk from town back to my apartment in the village but I know that I have to be careful as well. I think luckily I have some good friends who would help me out if anything were to happen. :)
