Melita Apartments

Postby jeffg » 03 Jul 2012 15:36

Hello everyone ,
We got home on Friday evening from another fantastic Icmeler holiday, have to say , in all the years we have been visiting Icmeler last week was the hottest we can remember as everyday the temp was up in the mid 40's, even Jean was struggling and normally she can cope with the hottest temperatures.
All the restarants served great food as always but a special mention must go to the Romance the medium rare steak was perfection could have cut it with a spoon it was that tender, the food generally was of the usual high standard with perhaps a cpl of places whose lunchtime food wasnt as good as it has been.We found with the exchange rate being so good that it seemed just like our first visit with the prices being seemingly comparable.
Now for the not so nice part, we were booked initially into the Melita apartments, I have to say it wasnt booked through ICR but TC used a subsidiary company and from the day we booked the holiday I was feeling very uneasy about it,Ishant go into that now but i feel i have to make a comment about the dreadful state of the Melita Apartments. On arrival we were shown to the apartment and while walking up the stairs the handrail felt sticky to the touch and the smell of stale cigarettes was in the air bearing in mind this was 7am, on entry to the apartment we immediately noticed a puddle of water around the fridge but assumed someone had an accident and it would dry naturally , back to the fridge a little later, on closer inspection of the apartment we found human hair on the pillows on the beds whicjh indicated to us that the apartment bedding hadnt been changed since the previous occupier had left, the curtains were absolutely filthy and the cutlery (what there was of it) hadnt seen a single drop of water in a long time as there were stains on them, returning to the fridge we wondered where the water was coming from and when we opened the door it was patently obvious that it wasnt working at all and that whatever ice there had been in there had melted and was pouring from the fridge.
It was at this time I made a decision that under no circumstances would we be staying at the Melita , so we walked the short journey to Vinces and one of the lads there rang Vince and I spoke to him about any vacancies he may have, thankfully he was able to accomodate us so i promptly returned to the Melita to collect our luggage, as i was leaving the apartments i could see bird droppings around the pool area which hadnt been cleaned up so to be honest this made our decision even easier.
In all the years we have been travelling to Icmeler this is the first time we have ever found reason to complain about anything really so i just find it very disapointing that a major company like TC treated us in this way having booked holidays with them since 1986 including 7 trips to Florida i have to say it left a nasty taste in my mouth , which was swiftly washed away with a few gallons of Tuborg Gold( I must be the only person in Icmeler that doesnt like Efes).Vinces Apartments and bar look fantastic after the renovations and he is as ever the complete host along with his staff, many thanks from Jean and I for looking after us so well after our initial shock to the system.
This wont put us off returning just will need to look mat a different provider as we coming back with our Daughter , son in law and 4 grandkids next year, perhaps JT can find us a nice apartment to keep the kids happy , anyway rant over , for those yout to travel all ahve a great time , because our experience was totally out of character bwith any of the previous apartments we have stayed in , sorry for being so long winded but needed to get it off my chest.

I can always find you a nice place Jeff

If you had booked the holiday with me in the first place you wouldn't have had to pay Vince as if there was a problem then we would have moved you free of charge

Next time give me a call direct

Hi
We stayed in the Melita 8th June to 22nd we had a few teething problems on arrival early hours of the 23rd. Booked with John (ICR) and spoke to John when we made booking he knew our circumstances, my husband has mobility and breathing problems and we hire a mobility scooter, he booked ground floor apartments for us and put this on the booking form, just as a precution I wrote to manager of Melita stating our mobility problems but on arrival they had put us on the top floor (no lift) no way my husband could climb all those stairs, Richard the bar manager who spoke very good english helped us by speaking to owner who had very limited english, they managed to get us a first floor apartment for the night, Richard helped my husband with the stairs, the next morning they managed to get us a ground floor apartment, in the meantime relized one of our bags had been left on the transfer bus, had not noticed at time as I was helping my husband get out of coach and into wheelchair, lots of phone calls to Sharon and Michelle early hours of morning but thanks to them all was sorted. We have never stayed in apartments before usually B & B half board or AI so cannot compare with other apartments, but we did enjoy our stay in the Melita we found the staff very helpful and our rooms were cleaned everyday, as they were only two of us the apartment seemed very large with a balcony either end, very good location as we usually use the beach in the morning and swimming pool for a short while in afternoon, they were very good with mobility scooter charging it up every night, any problems were sorted as soon as reported. We would return their at another time. Very hot that fortnight sometimes reaching the 50s. Ate at Vinces very good also had a few meals at the Garden which was very good, Florida Tandori, Melita and a few others all very good. Usually went to Libery beach who spoil my husband by fetching him a table, big umbrella and comfy chair on to their jetty. Once again sorry to Michele and Sharon for waking you up early on the 9th and thankyou you for your help, also thanks to Richard Chico and Martin for your help over the fortnight and Bill says thanks for the one for the road everynight

Hi jt
We had a bit of a conversation via e mail recently about these apartments and i have to be honest this isnt filling me with confidence to be fair instead of promising to move people about would it not be easier for your staff to go round there and see whats going on as i said previously we save up all year for our holidays so it should be something we look forward to but i have to say im a little worried to say the least i dont want to spend the first few days chasind people around trying to sort problems out if theres all these problems at the melita i would rather have things sorted before we arrive
Many thanks

Harris, I would first like to say that in all our years visiting Icmeler never had a problem previously and when we have booked with JT the service provided has been first class and depending on the flights we will be booking with ICRC next year.please don't go away thinking you have made the wrong choiceas I am sure it's a one off and as John has stated if you have any problems ICRC will sort them, to be honest at this moment anywhere in Icmeler looks welcoming , have a great time

Hi jeffg
Thanks for your reply i know what you mean i have booked previously with icr and always been looked after its just a bit worrying because by the time we arrive it will be peak season so wont be able to find alternative accomodation quite so easily if things are as bad for us as they were for you
The second thing is we contacted icr last year to enquire about certain apartments that were recomended to us and they recomended the melita instead which im sure was done in good faith but now i read these reviews and wonder if ive done the right thing
As i have said im sure john and his team will do everything in thier power to put things right but after all the melita was reccomended by them you would hope they have checked the place out before sending people there for a hard earned family holiday
Im sure we will enjoy icmeler whatever happens it will be our fourth time in five years hope its not our last
Cheers

I stayed at the maleta for two weeks in june with my grown up grandaughters,Richard the manager was very helpful the appartments were basic but clean. We had no complaints at all. They were cleaned daily always had clean towels and bedding . If people want 5 * they should book the Munamar. We would go back there the position is ideal. No complaints from us :D :)

Hi all
Thanks for your replys as i have said been to icmeler four times in five years also been to various other parts of turkey so we understand what to expect accomodation wise and dont expect five star just expect clean and practical
The point im making is i was recomended these apartments by icr who are based just round the corner from melita so surely it would be easier to try to find out why so many people are making complaints instead of continuing to send familys there with a view to moving them to other places when they complain

I think you misunderstood what I meant

I was merely saying that we are here to help

Another way I could have put it is, we have had lots and lots and lots of people staying at Melita this year and not one of them have come to our office to complain nor mentioned it to Elaine who visits every person we have staying in the resort so there is absolutely nothing to worry about.

If though you are not happy reading reports then please contact me by email and we will see if there is something we can do about it

Hi jt
Its not that i misunderstood what you said and i did state in my last post that we have been well looked after by you in the past and im sure you would do everything you could to make sure we have a great holiday
All im pointing out is it will be peak season when we arrive and i cant imagine there being too many options open to you to move people around
I am not coming to the melita with a negative outlook and will take it as i find it but lets be honest things as obvious as filthy curtains, unchanged beds, and dirty cutlery are a bit much to ask people to expect when arriving for a holiday
Thanks for your reply If i need any more help i'll email you as you said
Cheers

This is part of my review from June this was Our 3rd time in Icmeler stayed at Avlu 4 Captain Silvers & Melita and all were on par with each other except for location.
The Melita apartments, which are in a great location, the apartments themselves were quite basic kettle twin hotplate and a fridge very little in the way of utensils apartments cleaned and linen changed daily , pool was clean and plenty of sun beds but the apartments were not full didn’t use air conditioning as there was a balcony back and front so we just opened both doors to let the breeze blow thru it, would be needed now as the temperature is a lot hotter from 36 degrees when we arrived to 44 degrees when we left.

I would also say that dirty cutlery is down to the previous guests we make sure we leave the apartments in as clean a condition as possible.

Just an observation - seems to me that the Melita management take more care over ICR guests than those who book with a big tour op? IE maybe you're better booking it with ICR rather than say TC as the first poster did??

After all, ICR are based in Icmeler and Melita have more to lose if rooms provided to ICR guests aren't up to scratch? It just makes me wonder with the OP mentioning a room on a high floor despite the email they'd sent re mobility considerations - if they'd been ICR guests, I'd bet that ICR staff would have had a conversation with Melita management in advance??

Hi geovil
Thanks for your reply ive also stayed at captain silvers in the past and loved the place also stayed at the faber which was brilliant even though ive seen bad reviews about both of them but also seen good reviews as well
Its just a bit worrying when your holidays get close and theres bad comments coming out about the acomodation your going to it kind of spoils the build up a bit

Harris,

just to assure you, not all those reviews are true, esspecially the ones you read from 2010-2011 season on trip advisor. It was put on by few members of the same family who stayed there but had a heated argument with the owners. They keep bumping the bad review up each year as well (esspecially just before the season starts)

Just to assure you, we visit Melita many times over the season, pre-season as well as after season to evaluate how things are and have been. All bad reviews we seen have been discussed with Melita even if the review owner was not of ICR customers. This is done with any hotel that gets negative reviews to make sure all Holidaymakers to this icmeler leave this town with a good taste.

As for being worried about your holidays, please dont, we will be there just after your arrival to see how you are doing and will make sure you enjoy your holidays to the fullest extend. Incase you have any sort of an issue whilst your stay, there is enough of us here to solve it whether it be low or peak season:)

Wishing you a great holiday!

Hi Rami
Thanks for your reply jt explained about the trip advisor reviews at the time i booked with him and they didnt bother me at all i think just with our holidays being so close and these recent reviews not being very good i hit the panic button
As i have already said im sure the icr staff will do everything to make sure our holiday goes well and i apologise if i havnt put things across properly your reassurance means a lot
Thanks very much

My comments on the Melita were totally objective based on our findings and observations on our arrival, as I have also stated in 8 yrs of visiting Icmeler this is my one and only adverse comment and as far as I am concerned the negative as well as the positive comments should be read as I am sure everyone on the forum would agree.

Hi jeffg
Totaly agree with you if your experience was bad you have every right to put that in your review otherwise the information becomes one sided
