Excellent Traditional Turkish Food

Knowing how popular a topic food is to forum members I would like to share our recent experience & recommend Timothy's/ Cafe 26 for something traditionally turkish. Many members will probably know Clare anyway. Was chatting to Clare one day & as a result asked her if she would prepare something turkish which is not on her menu. Being on the adventurous side from time to time we ask a restuarant to do us something slightly different. We are pretty clued up on turkish food but were very impressed when we went for our meal the following night.

For starters we had the following (in very ample portions) served with fresh bread.
Saksuka - aubergene, onion, garlic, tomatoes, peppers & herbs.
Manti - pasta shells filled with mince, garlic yogurt, herbs & butter sauce.
Turkisk pastry filled with cheese.
:D
Our main course was Guvey - casserole of beef. tomato, aubergine, courette, shallotes, onions & potato baked in clay dish for about 5 hours. Served with turkish rice.
:D
Service was very attentive by Clare & Ipek without being intrusive.
After our meal we received free liquors.
:D
Overall, service was very good, quality of food excellent, in generous portions all at very reasonable price (although I never thought to ask before we went), highly recommended & we have already been talking of a return for some more 'different dishes'. :D :D

It sounds gorgeous.
If you dont mind me asking how much did this cost as we went to a restaurant in Fethiye last month and were charged £25 (70tl) each for an average meal. Never again!

It definitely was! Yours does seem very expensive, we paid 60tl for the experience; yes we have had good food even cheaper in Icmeler but at our request they prepared the food which was not simply off the menu.

Timothy's/ Cafe 26 is located at the back of Dia supermarket on the main street; when looking at the entrance to the store go up the side street facing you & you'll see there on the left. There is also a small pool, comfty seating area & a chill cabinet displaying some of the food available.

Yummmmmm - I love Saksuka, and the clay pot dishes. One of my other favourites is Hunkar Begendi, but not everywhere does it :(

Must give Timothy's a try after reading this. Only went in there once a couple of years back for breakfast and found that they didn't do an english breakfast. I had my list of restaurants to go to on recommendations and I think I mixed Timothy's with Tommy's. Haven't had a meal in either yet so fast forward the next 15 days... :)

I can recommend this cafe/restaurant too although only had snacks/breakfast there. Staff are lovely and food is good. 'Real chips' are as they say 'real' not frozen and food is freshly made. They also do sandwiches etc for the flight home. Very friendly and they have apartments above too. Well worth a visit or two or three :)
