Just back from a wonderful holiday. Stayed in a private duplex in the old village. Beautiful location, fab pool and ALL mod cons. A real home from home. Weather was glorious, sunshine all day then sultry evenings. Thank God for air conditioning! Typical day was walking to bakery right in the old village, then it was breakfast on the terrace. Warm bread, butter and various jams with lots of coffee! Then my morning swim, shower, change and a wander into Icmeler. Only down side was the hassle, we are taking a pre recording next time with " no thanks", "we have just eaten", "we are meeting friends", "we are not thirsty" and " I already own a small department store of handbags"!!! I know that the various establishments do have a living to make and that tourist numbers are down on previous years but I am positive that if they let you alone to browse without being pounced on then they would sell more! I even told them that! We only ate, drank and shopped in places where we got no hassle on principle.
After a light lunch of meats, salad and cheeses, again by the pool, I would have my afternoon siesta!
More swimming then we really hit the town! Ate very well and seeing as I drank mainly iced peach or apple tea, the relatively expensive alcohol never bothered me.
We ate dinner somewhere different every night...never had a bad meal.
Did the lazy day BBQ boat trip, sea is still amazingly clear with loads of well fed fish!! Diving off the boat to cool down was glorious!
Poor hubby literally....lol. He bought me 2 rings for my 40th, a yellow gold Turkish design ring and a white gold half wishbone with channel set rubies and diamonds. Can recommend the jeweller, very knowledgeable and friendly with no hassle...as he says...his jewellery sells itself. Ariman Ltd next to Baydu Hotel on Kenan Evren Road. Ask for Ernie!
I bought Jay a white and yellow gold heavy band and he inscribed my name free of charge for him on the inside.
Turkish bath is not to be missed......wonderful. Do it at the start of your hols...nice fresh skin to tan!
My favourite part was at night...Lying by the pool, looking up into a clear starry sky, drinking peach tea and listening to the crickets, watching the bats swoop and soar and hearing the call to prayer. Utterly amazing!
Roll on May!!
Regards,
Lisa
