Does anybody know where I am able to hire or purchase a large fan in Icmeler? I always find air conditioning gives me a sore throat (and last time in Icmeler a chest infection) and dont want to risk it again. 2 years ago we managed to buy one from a little electrical shop just round the corner from Club Sun Village but it was quite expensive.

20 sleeps and counting.....

im sure tansas sells them as we bought one 2 years ago

Great idea!!!! And cheaper than purchasing air con for duration of the holiday...

Quite often it's less expensive to buy one than it is to rent from the hotel you are staying at.

On about fans would someone tell me if you can put a fan in the hold luggage one at argos 7" at 9-99p
weight 1.23 kg my hubby has a bad throat so not doing aircon this time or trying not to, we go in June

you can put fans in the hold luggage as long as it is packed with in suitcase/holdall, however you can buy them cheaper in resort if you look in the supermarkets so you could be better waiting until you get here.

I do remember reading last year that some hotels don't like you using them as it uses their electric.
So find a suitable hiding place for it.
We had a great tip while in icmeler last year also, with regards to the air con and sore throats.
We both had sore throats after a few days.
One of the locals, the legend that is Oz the barman, said leave your balcony door open slightly at night while having the aircon on. We did this and didn't suffer anymore with sore throats.
I guess this would also depend on what floor you're on!!!

I would ask at the reception hotel wether you are able to use them, last time i was in icmeler our air con was broken, after many complains to the manager they supplied us with a fan which was great...except they turned it off on us all the time so we expected a cool room on return from the bar to find it roasting

They are great to move air around when the aircon is in the bedroom only and the kids are sleeping in the living room.

I have had my own 20 '' fan stored in the apartments basement for a number of years, when energy prices shot up three years ago they started to charge for it's use which in my opinion is fare as we are using power, we have a choice of renting one of theirs or using my own (which is more powerful), we came to a deal of a bottle of Duty Free Gordins gin for the two weeks which is cheaper than the cash option to me but they can make more money on the branded drink.

Nice one cheap at that that price.I take a small desk top fan in my hand luggage with no problem,only because I got pneumonia one year from the aircon !! obviously the fan is not as cooling as aircon,but it helps to keep me cool on the dresser blowing into my face

Unfortunately for us, if we leave the balcony door open at night, then the air con will not come on. Everything has to be securely closed before it will work, so I'm afraid the theory of leaving the balcony door open will not work for us, shame though, as it was a very good thought.

Hi Helen2904, try putting a small fridge magnet on patio door lock and you can leave door open and air con stays on, works everytime for me happy sleeps.

yes same with us if the window or balcony is even slightly open then the air con stops

Aircon drys the air out, try putting a couple of bowls of water around the apartment, as this evapourates it helps, the vessels you use to hold the water needs to be shallow with a large surface area.

whilst there is talk about aircon, whats the approx. charge for aircon, is it paid on a coin meter in the room or is it a flat rate per night and when the holiday is done you pay up on leaving and fall over in shock?

The price of Air con varies, at some hotels it's in the price, or it can be centrally controlled, i.e. on at certain times. If you are at an apartment, when you check in you will probably be asked if you require Air con and a Safe.
Air con is normally around £4 a day, upwards and a Safe is around £10 per week, adding £38-£70+ to your holiday.
You will then get the remote and it will be switched on at an external fuse box. But either way you normally pay up front and they prefer Sterling.
