Icmeler and Marmaris market

Postby K_Standing » 24 May 2012 10:01

Hi all,

It's our first time to Icmeler and i've heard that the markets are very good.

When are the markets?
Which is the better market?
What sort of things can we expect from this markets?
What produce do they have? I wouldn't mind some decent knock-offs
And most importantly, is there room for a bit of bartering?

Excited,
Kieran

We didn't go to Marmaris market but did do the icmeler one twice
It can be very over bearing, what with the heat and amount of people there, but the second time was much more pleasant as we knew what to expect.
Lots of 'good knock off' gear there, and you can find pretty much anything.
If you have kids just keep them close by, as when we went there was a stall selling stun guns and tazers and alike, and there was a lot of interest from teenage lads, of which obviously isn't legal In the uk, and could cause an unwelcome surprise at the airports!!!!!!
But, a year on after buying handbags/t-shirts etc they're all still going strong.
We will be topping the wardrobe up again this year :-)
And yes, barter to your hearts content, they kind of expect it.

We have been to both markets and to be honest we didn't find things any cheaper than in the shops round the town. The heat and the amount of people can make it a bit over bearing. You do have to watch what you are buying, when we went my two step sons bought some boxers and for all they asked for medium when they got them home they was all different sizes, the same happened with some tee shirts and the eldest lad bought what he thought was a single bedding set also turned out to be a king size. We just use the shops in the town now and you do still get some good bargains with the haggle. 8)

The market in Icmeler is on a Wednesday , go past the Tansa supermarket ( this will be on your left ) Walk up to the main road and cross it , walk to your right and its up a street on your left , there will be plenty of people going so i am sure you will find it , Barter HARD and start walking away and you should get what ever you are looking for at a bargain price , I suggest getting there early as it does get crowded . Enjoy :)

Icmeler market is on Wednesday, if you go towards the main street leading to Marmaris, you will see lots of people walking towards the market area. It's next to Turunc road.
Siteler market is on Tuesday and it's also easy to find. You can take a dolmus and and ask it to stop after MGM.
Turunc market is on Monday and you can go there with dolmus (exciting trip via mountains - almost like a roller coaster) and then take a taxi boat back to Icmeler. You get a nice day trip at the same.
We usually bargain a lot and end up getting good deals :D
Love to shop for handbags, t-shirts, spices, fresh fruits and all kinds of souveniers etc.

You can also get some really nice deals, if you go to Marmaris bazaar and actually wander a bit further behind them, there are lots and lots of shops and even better prices than at street markets. Bazaar itself is a bit pricey...

We have done the markets now for twelve years, the stall holders were always up for bartering, but last year we found certain stall holders very rude and agressive, one was actually belly bumping my son who is twenty four and not small so we decided to leave. The merchandise on the market you can get in the shops, but we tried to barter for some hoodies, but they had a fixed price, and would not budge . Good luck with your shopping spree :D

Lots of fun batering at the market....

Worth going for the experience definitely !

the word's "maybe I like it" and walking away usually helps the price get reduced ! :-)

so funny once my friend paid full price and I paid half price for same item with same stall holder... I was brave enough to barter...
