Icmeler Online Holiday Forum & Reviews - Turkey

Hello,

After two years together, my Girlfriend and I are going on our first holiday with each other on the 26th June. We are so excited. Neither her or I have been to Turkey (infact, i've hardly been anywhere). Not only is it our first holiday together, but it's also her birthday whilst we are there, so i want to make a great holiday for her.

Has anyone got tips on:

What excursions we should do?
Where can i take her for her birthday (on a night)?
What is the weather like around June/July?

Also, if anyone has stopped in the Marti Resot De Luxe Hotel, what's that like?

hi Kieran, we've now been 16 times to Turkey, so you can say we like it...we have also stayed in the Marti resort a few times, but now prefer to only go either B & B or self catering as there is so much choice in Icmeler. We are arriving in resort on 28/6/12 and usually at this time of year it is very hot. Saying that i have typical scottish skin and have never burnt, but being sensible about using suncream is a must. I would thoroughly recommend going on a "lazy day" boat trip, these take in several stops for you to jump/dive in and a bbq, usually leaving in the morning and returning about 5
I wouldn't recommend booking through the hotel as they will take commission, we have went several times on the lazy day out several times and last year went with Captain Bullshit! yes, thats what its called, a family run boat. Very clean, food good and toilets clean. The Marti is a beautiful resort,the swimming pools are very good, and you get clean towels each time you need them, it also has a small indoor pool. There is a swim up bar which is great at lunch time, for a first timer to Turkey it is a good choice, if an expensive one. They will always take English money in the resort so after our first visit, this is what we have always done, no need exchange in the resort. There are plenty of nice restaurants and bars, loads of shops etc. We have become very friendly with Ferhat and Murat who run the Venice Restaurant/Bar on the canal, if you wanted to take her for a meal there, if you say to them they would provide a cake and get everyone to sing happy birthday to her, the service is first class, as is the food. ICR offices were indispensable to us one year when we overstayed by a night in the resort (due to the hospitality in the venice!!) we missed our flight. They arranged flights, etc and we would have been lost without them. The office is in the middle of the town and you will see it when you're out for a walk. It is a nice walk from Icmeler to Marmaris along the sea front, where there are nice bars you can stop at en route. This year we are staying in the Ida Hotel, which is in the centre. Hi Kieron - I can highly recommend the Love Boat for a special birthday meal for your girlfriend. It is slightly more expensive but well worth paying that little bit extra. A must do trip is jeep safari - but dont dress up cos there will be surprises in store! And for a fantastic night out go and see the Stella show at the Harmony bar. I,m sure you will both have a great time in icmeler and will join the many who return year after year.

I have stayed at Marti Resort about 6 times, and you will not be disappointed it is lovely.
One big thing however being in there, having paid up front for meals you would perhaps not visit
the towns restaurants.
We now self cater and as good as the hotel is this is what we now prefer.
ICR are by far the best to advise you on trips etc.
A meal out. There are many to choose from. Love boat, Waterfall, Wayfarers. Our fave is the Selem,
Run by Sybel and Turgay. Superb food and company.

It seems that everyone who goes once, goes back again which speaks volumes of how beautiful Icmeler is. I like the sound of the all inclusive boat trips. I'll keep an eye out for Captain Bullsh!t, haha.

I think it will take some persuading to get Danielle to go on the jeep safari but it's something i'm definatly keen on doing.

There are a few things you have mentioned that i'm going to take into consideration, if i'm prepared then i can make sure we both have a fantasic time. And you never know Jacqui, we may see you there.

I'm sure once you've been you'll catch the Icmeler bug, and return back time and time again, have a wonderful holiday and i hope she has a great birthday wherever you decide to go.

I'm sure there's plenty like me, but I first went to Icmeler in 2006 with my kid and some friends. Needless to say, we loved it and vowed we would go back. 2007 and I got a great deal to go to Florida which we loved, and Icmeler kinda went out of our thoughts for a while. Back to Florida in '09 then my circumstances changed and I haven't been abroad since except for city breaks. This year, me and my partner of the last 3 years (yes, that was the change of circumstances ) decided to put off our wedding plans as we both felt that we needed a long holiday with both of our kids as we hadn't had one yet. My first suggestion? Not Florida as it was unaffordable, but somewhere else as beautiful (more so even....Florida has it's own charms )...I convinced Chell - it didn't take much when I showed her some pics and told her some tales of our last visit - and within maybe a few hours of postponing our wedding, we were happily planning a holiday to Icmeler.

It is that kinda place. Other than Barcelona to visit a friend who lives there, I wouldn't touch the Costas again with a barge pole.
