Bank account for residency

Hi,
just heard from a turkisk friend who had been speaking to an english couple yesterday who said that they needed 4000 EACH to open the account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :o - unclear if this is pounds or lira or which bank; - can anyone clarify?

ps, :?: doh - how do you get the 'smilies' from the side of the page into the text?

In order to open just a regular current account you don't need any money to deposit, however if you are opening a high interest account then a certain amount is required and this is dependant on the bank. If you are wanting an account to gain residency then you are required to show a certain amount in your account which is just over 6000lira for every year that you are applying for your residency.

as Laney said you dont need a certain amount for a normal account
when my parents set up a bank account they just put £60
