Exchange rate dropped today

Postby keileyoneill » 16 Apr 2012 09:21

I have been watching the exchange rate for the last few weeks on a daily basis and it has been at a good rate of 2.8 however it has dropped to 2.77 at best today (as low as 2.65 in some places), I am considering getting £500 today incase it drops lower - do you think this is a good idea or do you think the rate will increase again? We are going to Icmeler in June.
Many thanks

Hi,

I always use this to get a general feel of the rates. http://travelmoney.moneysavingexpert.com/holiday-money/

I'm thinking about getting £500 now juust to be on the safe side incase it does take a big plunge.

Never heard of the top company who are showing the best rate but they have great reviews so possibly worth a punt.

Cheers :D

I've just ordered £500 from Travel FX.

£505.82 = 1,400 lira.

That should get me a few Efes for the first couple of days ;)

I wish we could get that in the UK. I would wait until July to change my cash but knowing my luck the exchange rate would drop to something like 2.1 or something :(

I'm glad I got mine from Travel FX last Thursday when it was at 8.82. It's always a gamble when you buy, I suppose it depends on how much you plan to change and work out what your losses would be if it did go up in following days you buy or gain if the rate went down!

I was offered 2.79.23tl by Thomson this afternoon whilst collecting my tickets.
I declined hoping the rate may be better in resort.

I have never bought Lira in the UK.....I have ALWAYS found that the exchange rate is better in the resorts....still need to shop around but Icmeler was better than Marmaris last year...think I got 2.85....that was in September / October :-)

I always exchange about £50 to start us off and then get lira as I go along.
Always better rate in small supermarkets in resort.

True that the rate is higher in resort but this time last year lira was 2.78-2.83 here and by the time I went in July the rate dropped to 2.5 in resort so I've just bought some now just in case ;-)

And to top it off about 3 days after I left resort the rate went up lol
