would you trust/use these?

just wondering if anyone has used these type of wheeled hold alls instead of using a suitcase to go abroad?? Obviously trying to save as much of my luggage allowance for items rather than the weight of the case. We have seen the lightweight cases in matalan but were put off because one case had a small cut in it that was on the shelf, so obviously they are not that indestructable and als for the price of them, would it not be just as good to use one of these? would you use one or have you used one and did it survive the journey there and back again?

Hi daisysun,
We have started using Holdall type luggage, the only problem you will find is some brands will not stay on their end, ie on the wheels. Take a look at Argos, they have the Antler brand, other than this we are very pleased with them.

Recently bought some Tripp suitcases from Debenhams, really light and good quality, not as cheap as the matalan ones but seem worth the extra money.

We opted for holdalls after a recommendation from our friend Sylvia. She had used them for a few years and was pleased so we bought 2 holdalls; the first 1 purchased was only £12 and I thought well if it doesn't suit, I haven't spent a lot. The 2nd one was only £7.99 for himself. We have used these twice a year on our visits to Turkey for 3 years and they have proved to be ideal. The weight was incredible with even the "kitchen skink"!! :D :D

We've also used these type of holdalls, the current one we've had for about 4 years and its used twice a year and still OK, might replace it this year though. Thoroughly recommend them, and at £8.99 you can't complain, it has an enormous capacity. I was never sure if it was waterproof but I just packed our things into carrier bags before putting in the holdall which made it easier to unpack when you arrive.
Ours are from Argos http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/p ... OLDALL.htm

i used one for my last holiday, very easy to pull if has wheels and doesnt feel as heavy as dragging a suitcase especially when tired from flight etc

only problem was it was damaged when i collected it from airport on the way home, slight rip to the material but nothing major, would say these are better than cases as ive have many damamged over the years

We bought holdalls from argos a few years ago and each holdall weighed three kg less than the suitcases, it's surprising how heavy empty suitcases weigh. The first time we used them we packed a suitcase and then transferred everything into the holdall just to compare. We were surprised as there was more room in the holdall. Even though we haven't had a problem we put two luggage straps on each holdall, one lenghthways and one widthways. We do this as a precaution as we've watched the baggage handlers throw the luggage around and think some of them could enter this as an Olympic event

We don't take anything breakable with us and transfer things into plastic bottles. We also take some bubblewrap with us just in case we buy anything breakable as the holdalls are not as sturdy as some of the suitcases and don't give the same protection. We decided on the holdalls after paying for excess baggage at Dalaman, if we'd had holdalls we would have been within the limit :( You live and learn :)

Ive been using a large wheeled holdal for about 3 years now as my case was about 3kg heavier.Last year to save my stuff getting creased I bought the vac bags out of Tesco(vinyl ones) and ironed all my stuff and put it in seperate piles then vacd it all. Saved lots of space and didnt have to iron one thing when I got there, then put all my dirty washing in them for coming back. Result. :D :D

My wheeled holdalls go back on holiday to Icmeler each time, as we threw our old ones away and bought two quality holdalls at a great price and four years on, they have been to Turkey seven times, Germany twice, and on every away day business trip I make during a year.

From a luggage shop on the main street (Dolmus route) leading away from the market, you pass the main bank which is further up on the left hand corner down the steps, (bank on the same street as the new building work now on your left where the ATM's were), keep going up the main road, and around 50 / 60 yards further up on the right hand side of the road.

I'll know the shop name, but not until we go back in August !!

used a similar holdall for the last 4 years 2 holidays a year.

just bought a new one as one of the wheels broke on way out last time and its the exact same as the bag in your ebay link. it was £12.95 in a local bag/shoe shop :)

i'll be happy if i get another 4 years out of this one for the price 8)
