Advice please!

Postby skino » 11 Apr 2012 00:50

Hi there,

I am returning to Icmeler in May with a friend. We will be going all Inclusive as we are quite skint at the moment and that way we can limit our spending! We are having difficulties choosing between two hotels, well three maybe.

The main two are Marmaris Park Hotel and Julian Forest Suites. I am 31 and had spinal surgery in December so I suffer from a bad back and have a walking stick. I can walk but I get tired easily and struggle with hills or lots of steps. I have heard that Marmaris Park has lots of steps. Does anyone know if the steps are throughout the hotel grounds? IS it really steep? I know it's quite far from Icmeler but we can get the Dolmus, but I don't want to stay in a hotel if I have to climb mountains to get around!

Then Julian Forest Suites, people say there is a really big issue with wasps there, my friend is terrified of wasps, so is it all year round or just seasonal? Also, generally, does anyone know which hotel is supposed to be better?

The third, kinda, option was Mirage World. We just didn't think it looked as exciting as the others, and maybe was more child orientated. We are 22 and a (young) 31. We want to have quiet times next to the pool, the odd night out, sunbathe and have a few quiet nights out, and an all inclusive hotel that has nice food. It's a respite holiday for me really. A much wanted break from hospitals and physio!

Can anyone offer any advice please? Or even options of other places if you think they would be better.

Thank you loads xx

Hiya

I don't ever do AI in Icmeler so can't reply on that basis, however, what I know about those hotels - Marmaris Park would come above Julian Forest by a long way. Neither are good though if you're going to struggle with steps and walking given the geography of their respective locations, but again, of the two I would say Marmaris Park would be better. I do know all about wasps having inspected them very closely on a September visit (with the bottom of my foot and my elbow!) - the issue with wasps is at the end of the season so we were told, they bring the hives back to the top of the mountains overlooking Icmeler for winter - if you get the dolmus to Turunc you can see them. This is why there are lots of them at that time of year, so in May you'll be fine. I've been in Icmeler every month of the season over the years and have only ever had that problem in September when we were staying in the old village.

Mirage world looks nice, but I am limited to what I'm seeing online as I've not encountered it or anyone who has stayed there so not sure how busy it would be with kids. Again, I guess that depends when in May you are planning your trip for, and whether there are school holidays at that time. Another AI place I have seen and it looks delicious, same area as Marmaris Park is the Mares, don't think it's priced too bad on Jet2 either.

I think perhaps all hotels will have pluses and some minuses - maybe pick the one with the best AI package that suits your needs? That said, I've not yet spent in total on a holiday in either an apartment or b&b hotel what it would have cost for an AI holiday, but they are very popular so must have merit! :)

To put it in simple terms and not even thinking about the food, drink or ambiance

Julian Forest is at the back of beyond, Marmaris Park is not in the resort of Icmeler or Marmaris but in between without shops or bars around it but Mirage is centre of town and a few minutes walk from the beach

There is also the Aqua (like the Marti La-Perla on the beach and near all the bars and shops). I went for my 30th erm I mean my 21st  birthday last May. Fantastic hotel with fantastic food and drinks. The staff are also really helpful and all the rooms are very clean.

Marmaris Park is a lovely hotel,we were there in September and will be returning in just over 5 weeks.I don't think you would manage to get to the sea as there are lots of steps or a fairly steep walkway to the seafront. To catch the dolmus to visit Icmeler or Marmaris you would have to walk up a fairly steep, short hill.I really enjoyed this hotel but found the steps quite difficult, my knees are not very good.
My advice would be to pick an hotel in Icmeler, along the seafront, as you're going in May,before it gets really hot ,take a look at L'Etoile, our only real gripe about this hotel was that in August the aircon was not sufficient, the location was perfect and the price was quite reasonable.Entertainment was poor but pretty much the same as most Turkish hotels .At least in Icmeler you would have lots of choice where to spend your evenings as it is very flat.

Hi,
we have stayed at the Julian forest in late October and it was rife with wasps, stinging everyone, dont go September or October, also it was very family orientated, but saying that, we are tied to school holidays, we have also stayed at the Mirage a few times and much preferred it, the location is excellent, especially it struggling with walking etc, righ next to the beach( 2 mins away) and central to shops and bars, the Julian forest is nice but just about as far back in the forest as you can get.
hope this helps

As far as getting around go for one of the all inclusive hotels in icmeler Aqua/ Marti the prom is flat and wide and the surrounding area including town is as well, I cannot comment on AI at the hotels as I have not stayed but location and area is Ideal for less mobile holidaymakers

Stay clear of the Marmaris Park & Julian Forrest as JT said, North face of the Eiger and the back of beyond - given your mobility problems you would be a prisoner in your room. The Mirage, Aqua, Marti La Perla, Marti and several others that I cannot think of at the moment would be much better. The best thing to do would be to speak to ICR and ask their advice. They, in all probability, will know somewhere better and cheaper that will suit you and your problems.
Not many kids in resort in May.

Hope you get it sorted as it will do you the world of good.

Also, does anyone know anything about the Munamar Hotel? It's coming up as quite cheap and it's got 4 stars on TripAdvisor. The others suggested look brilliant too, although I think the Aqua Hotel will be too expensive. Thanks loads for all your feedback, you have given me loads to work with. xx

We've stayed at Mirage World for the last 3 years (twice in May & once in August). There are 2 swimming pools - one upstairs which is where the kids go & then a quieter one down by the pool bar. Never had a problem with the food, could always get something we liked at every meal. Would definitely recommend. We are back this year in June, but have chosen to stay at Marti La Perla just for a change. I'm hoping it is just as good.

Hi we stayed at the Munamar about 7 years ago and it has changed hands a few times since.Location is fantastic for the beach and the prom is all flat so you would not have any probs there. Also is easy walk round to the shops and bars. If it interests you I would contact John Toohey at ICR travel as it is on their books and he will give you honest answers and opinions about it meeting your needs.Go to the home page and click on link.I dont know what its like now.7 years is a long time.I hope you get sorted! :) :)

myself i wouldn't stay all inclusive in icmeler as it is so cheap to stay bb and you can have cheap meals or as expensive as you want and the food is lovely in most restaurants you can get an english breakfast for between 1 and 2£ and if you are paying all inclusive you feel obliged to stay there most of the time..and there are some lovely people out there to meet xx
