Hi All
Hope you are all enjoying the easter break, thought one of you might be able to help me, when i was last in Turkey , Marmaris years ago, I noticed that many tourists were changing there english money in a local restaurant that we ate in, is this the normal thing to do, bring english money and change it there or exchange it before we come, we are staying at the efem apartments in September for days, do we or dont we i ask.
Many thanks

Hi, We have always started with a few Lira from UK. to begin with then changed our Stirling at the little supermarket beside Sizzlers. Never use a change office whatever is says outside. Most small shops, bars etc will change it but avoid Hotel/Apartment receptions. Much better rates to be had if you look around. So it's Stirling for us and change up when we get there.

Dont change your money at the Change office you never get what it says on the board all the little supermarkets will change your sterling or T/Cheques, the little supermarket beside Sizzlers by ICR office we found gave the best rates

Hi. I agree with Silverbeards post. Change just enough to Lira to keep you going for a day or so before you leave and then change your stirling in resort. The rate is far better in resort but as Silverbeard states stay away from the change office or hotels. Most supermarkets will offer a better rate than the change office and the one which seems to be most popular would be the supermarket under ICR office.

Hi,
If your worried about carrying all Sterling, the supermarkets/bars will also change Sterling travellers cheques.
They are insured against theft and get the same exchange rate...you only need your passport once.

We just take some lira with us to do first day, sterling notes and sterling travellers cheques which we change in the supermarket next to sizzler too. Always get a good rate, and no problem changing travellers cheques with no comission charged, and as Steve says you only have to take your passport once. Great service :)

Always done it this way, sometimes the lads in the restaurants take it to the change offices as they get a better rate and no commission! If you've got a card that doesn't charge for cash withdrawls abroad too, you can get sterling out of some of the cash machines when you are there to save carrying it all around - I always worry at the airport when you have to send it all through the scanners, I always get stopped for the full works search including my shoes and get a bit anxious when it's just sat there looking at me!
