Hi guys, I know a few of you have booked your July jollies already and I wondered how you got on with flights. Prices mainly. The sky scanner link on here is very good but I'm interested in knowing how you guys found your flights especially if you found better value. Thanks people.

I used Travel Rep to search for flights as it gives you plenty alternative options to the dates you put in, checked who the flights were with, EJ in our case, and went direct to them.

Thanks Biker, so when you went direct to EJ did you find the price differed a lot from the TR site? Because I do find that when I see flights on a search site, when you go into the actual company site, they are dearer??

Sami by law they now all have to show the taxes included but not the luggage so usually that is the difference

Think it was about £10 a head, guessing thats TR's mark-up.

my parents just booked their july flights from TC flying from aberdeen
so so expensive this year £500 return just for the flight each

Wow! That's a lot and I thought £300 was a lot for me!

Hi Sami Yes flights seem to be expensive this year. I have been looking for several months now for flights from Newcastle in August. Have just done the deal wth J2, but still a bit annoyed with the hidden charges!!. There is me and mandy and we are taking our grandson this year, hes only three but still counts as afull passenger. When the price came up it was £896.94 for the three of us and only two bags. When you actually get into the site to enter names and details and pay the new total is now £957.94!! At least Dick Turpin wore a mask!!

So much for the flight companies having to show you all the hidden charges, they really don't. I know in the end I will have to bite the bullet and book as and when I can i.e. when the money is there to spend. I'm lucky that its just me I have to worry about and not a whole family to pay for. Trouble is with flights being a lot I may have to take a cheaper transfer company to make up some.

I'm finding Thomas Cook to be the best at the moment for my July jaunt.

My may tc flights have gone up over 50% since we booked them. The flights I had with J2 for august had gone down a little from booking, but still, all are much much more than 2 years ago. I think I did 3 trips then for the price of one this year. I know it's market driven and all that, but when you can get 2 return flights to Barcelona for £140 all in, it's a bit of a chore to be forking out nearly £500 EACH for Dalaman!

Tip I had from a friend - if you want to take the risk of last minute booking, book any holiday that flies into Dalaman on one of the cheapy last minute sites, just to get the flights cheaper, then book your transfers and accom for Icmeler. I've not tried it yet, don't know why I didn't think of it before!

Hi Noodles, yes, I have heard of doing that before, grabbing the holiday and not using the accommodation. I might have a look even now and see how that pans out. Would be good to cheat the system this way a little bit.

unfortunately my family arent flexible on dates and have to go in that time and have no choice
they look into going from edinburgh and glasgow but once you had added the other charges such as parking the car there for the 17 days it didnt work out much cheaper
but i completely agree £500 is a joke
dont know how the flights companies get away with it

I tried to do this a few years ago. The problem was that I'm in a wheelchair. When checking flight availability it was fine but when you put in 'wheelchair assistance needed' there was no flight available. I suppose they only have a limited number of seats for people needing wheeelchair assistance per flight. So this way of booking is for able bodied only

Discrimination!!!

Not discrimination Sami just common sense and safety

If you are in a wheelchair or require that type of assistance then you have to be seated in certain seats for your comfort and of ourse ease of movement to get you off the plane in an emergency so if those seats are full then I suppose that is what they mean about no assistance

It's hard enough for an able bodied person to get in and out of a seat on a tcook flight so if you are disabled not much hope

It's not discrimination. As well as the reasons given by John you're are not allowed to use your powered wheelchair for safety reasons and you have to be pushed in a manual one by one of the employees at the airport. When you think about all the flights flying in and out at one time there are only a limited number of wheelchairs and a limited number of employees to push you. I must say that credit where it's due we've always had excellent service at Dalaman.
