I did it last year and my recommendations are

Don't go there on your own just in case
Take decent trainers the ground is quite loose underfoot
I would recommend long trousers, I did it last year and wore shorts hence got scratched to pieces
Take plenty of water
Take a camera for the stunning views

Take it easy and slow and he should be OK.

I dont like to state the obvious but it would depend on how fit and agile he is and if he has any medical conditions. I have seen some at that age fitter than a 30 year old and some a lot younger not fit at all. If in doubt I would say no.

I myself would be quite happy to send my hubby up a mountain, a big one lol!

Hi Roy.....
Take a look at these two links.
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=14511&p=133612&hilit=flag#p133612
viewtopic.php?f=30&t=14714&hilit=flag

Both Aliral (Ralph) and myself went up, unfortunatley the flag was missing, but the views from up there are Supurb...
