Winter in Icmeler

Postby sophia » 04 Jan 2012 17:14

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what bars/restaurants are open in Icmeler in January and the winter time? Is it worth a visit.

Also are any of the clubs open in Marmaris?

Thanks

Apparently the Irish Bar is open too - have seen adverts for bingo nights on another forum. Can thoroughly recommend Miami Bar in the village and Onbasi (Manuel) is the perfect host, he is there 24/7 !!

In Marmaris there are more open, particularly in Bar Street which have live Turkish music.

Its a lot quieter here this year, much more than in previous years but I love it. The cafe bars going up the hill on the promenade towards Marmaris are open (apart from Can's Cafe) which are lovely in the day when the sun's shining looking across the bay and watching people fishing off the helicopter pad. If you want a chill out time its perfect but if you are looking for more action then you would probably find it in Marmaris. Again I like Marmaris in the winter time, sitting by the marina in the many cafe's which are open (just don't like Marmaris in the summer!). If you are looking for restaurants then I've only seen Kardalan, Nefis Pide and similar kebab shops open. Alins Grill is shut this winter for refurbishment.

I will take some photo's in the next week or so to show what's happening around here.

Thanks all.

Thats really helpful Chris - we are coming at the end of January but wasn't sure if we should stay in Icmeler or Marmaris. I think Marmaris might be better, although I want to relax, I do want to a bit of action. Thanks for your help, really useful. I too, would never stay there in the summer, I only go in there a few times on my visit to go to bar st. I'm glad those cafes on the hill are open - I can't think of the name of my favourite one but I hope it's open as I will be paying a visit if it is!

Whats the weather like at the moment?

Peli there is no way now of going direct but I go http://www.thy.com Manchester to Istanbul then 1.5 hours wait and then flight to Dalaman which is very short

Free booze all the way and food and 2 planes and most important the most comfortable seats and leg room

I am going one way but the return price for the flight I am on is £251

Sophia - I could lie and say that the weather is gorgeous but today there has been torrential rain and its apparently going to be a windy night tonight! Someone has said it's the tail end of what has been going on in the UK over the last week.

I've been back nearly two weeks now and it has been mixed but when it is sunny its beautiful (as always!) one of my friends was actually sitting in a vest top this week at one of the cafe's on the hill - although the Turks are walking around in polo necks and thick coats! However there have been more sunny days than rain or cloudy ones in the last 2 weeks.

Have to say though once that sun dips behind the mountain then the temperature drops rapidly! It is chilly at night, you need heating of some kind. I think I was spoilt with the temperatures in UK before I came back here (although I believe that has now changed there!).

If you are going to stay in Marmaris, there seems to be a lot of building work being done along the main drag on the road to Icmeler - new hotels being built, older ones being upgraded with new windows and frontages etc. so bear that in mind depending on where you are staying, as you wont get a lie in.

We are supposed to be going into Marmaris this weekend (if the weather is good) so I will take my camera with me.

So generally, be prepared for sun, cold and rain! Layers seem to be the answer!

You can get some good deals with Thomas Cook to Antalya and there are firms in Marmaris/Icmeler who are offering transfers for £30-35 per person which is good given the distance! Takes approx 5 hours transfer but it allows you to see a bit more of Turkey especially along the coast.

A hell of a journey Chris so definitely better to do the flight change at Istanbul.

5 hours + from Icmeler to Antalya and over the mountain not along the coastal road as that would take longer so a very long day indeed

Oooo is it JT? I was going to do it at the end of February to come back to the UK. In November I did Dalaman-Istanbul, Istanbul-Heathrow, Heathrow-Manchester and it took me all day although the actual flight times weren't that bad, it was the waiting inbetween!

Well it is cold here, its official. This morning we had our first burst caused by build up of ice in the solar panel for heating the water. It sprung a leak and water was cascading out of it like a fountain. We are not up on the mountain, we are very near to the centrum and believe me it is cold !!!

Beautiful sunny days, blue skies but such a chill factor too. I've been told this is the coldest people have known it to be for many years. However must not complain!
