Not sure what is being advised, but if you click on the link below, I read it that no visa is required if you are a uk citizen living in the uk, for a tourist visa to turkey. ????

http://turkey.visahq.co.uk/

Thoughts please as we have booked a trip to Dalyan in May and also one to Icmeler in August.

I've not heard that a tourist visa is not required for entry to Turkey - but looking at that link they can't even get the date right for the New Year Bank Holiday so I think I would take it with a pinch of salt. The new visa regulations will come into effect in February 2012 which still requires you to purchase a £10 visa for the 90/180 duration.

There is no much information around that is not accurate. Last year someone told me that the amount of cigarettes you could bring in had risen from 200 to 600. On the Onur Air catalogue on the flight it also said that you could bring back 600 cigarettes. Luckily I had checked on http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/arriving ... u.htm#1and so knew the limit was 200 and that the information on the flight and in Dalaman airport was wrong.

I know that this post is about the visa but the point I'm trying to make is that you need to be careful that the information is obtained from the right websites, government websites etc to make sure that the information is accurate.

Just checked on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/travel-and-liv ... ope/turkey where it says:
Entry Requirements - Visas
A visa is required for British nationals to enter Turkey unless they are cruise ship passengers who enter the country for a day trip and return to the ship the same day. British citizens (for diplomatic/official passports see below) may obtain a multiple entry visitor's visa valid for 90 days at the port of entry on payment of £10 in cash (Scottish currency is not accepted). Visas can also be obtained from the Turkish Consulate in London.

Turkish Authorities recently revised their visa stamps. All visas now state that they are valid for multiple stays up to a maximum of 90 days in a 180 day period. However, the Immigration Authorities inform us that these rules are not being applied and that visas are valid as before, for multiple entries within 90 days of issue. Be careful not to overstay 90 days from the date of issue, as some British nationals have been fined and banned from re-entering.

This website is 'Still current at: 02 January 2012' and was 'Updated:05 December 2011' To be sure though either keep checking the website or give them a ring. From what I remember last year it was a bit of a mix-up with even the staff at the airports a bit confused.

The web suite referred to by jivebunnieO is a private Company based in America and is not connected in anyway to the Turkish Embassy. Thats probably why their bank holidays dates are not correct. I would not be prepared to accept anything they quote about Visa`s :!:

I have today sent an email - a rather long one - explaining my/our concerns regarding the rumours of a new visa. I have asked them to confirm or deny that it is taking place and also to confirm our understanding of it. I have also asked for advice as we have three bookings to visit Turkey this year. If it is all correct then one of those will have to be cancelled. I will let you all know the outcome if I get a response.

David your May/June and September/October holidays add up to 42 days this is well within your allowed 90 day holiday period.
The period between May 1st and October 31st is 184 days so holidays must be taken within 180 days of this period.
If you have an Holiday arranged for April this is the problem.
This new visa rule comes into effect from Febuary 1st 2012.
Peli is correct in the way he explained it.

My understanding of this (after getting very confused going in twice on 1x 90 visa in 2011!) is that you can stay for up to a total of 90 days in 180 days. If you've stayed 90 days in that 180 days, then you have to wait for another visa. However, if you've just been for a few holidays that don't add up to anything like 90 days and you've just run out of visa, then plain and simple, you just get another one when you go in like you do now.

I hope this is the case as we also like to go beginning and end of season. To be honest, I can't see them not giving you another visa as a tourist as you are bringing income to the country. The changes are just to stop those avoiding paying for the correct visa if they are not tourists (I think).

My problem is not with the amount of days spent in Turkey but with the fact that the three holidays cover from early March to late October. Its the expiry of one visa and not being able to get another in time that may be the problem. We are due to be in Istanbul 4 March then Icmeler late May early June and Icmeler again late Septemberto middle October. Its the spread that seems to fall foul of the regs.

Sounds like a no go Dave for the Istanbul holiday or the October one because when the 180 day visa expires you cannot renew till a further 90 days has elapsed.

Sorry to differ on this, but it's a concern.

I've spent a while this morning reading what I can on this, and there is much information that states that when the visa runs out, you just get another one. So, you get one, and on day 181 you can get another, there is no difference with the current 90 day visa system on this score.

The BIG difference is that you can only stay 90 days in that 180 day period. So if you try to go back for day 91+ on the same 180 day visa, then they won't let you in. But if you're going back on say, day 184 and you've had a couple of holidays on your first 180 visa, then you simply pay another tenner and get another 180 visa.

There is apparently guidance coming out soon on the turkish consulate site, it won't be too long with the new visa starting from 1st Feb. I really wouldn't be cancelling any trips just yet!

If the new visa takes effect from 1st February the guidance would be available by now as it's only 28 days away and I would have though that tourists would need notification of the change. Perhaps they'll do the same as last time and keep on changing their minds. Along with silverbeard I had read that you couldn't get another visa after one ran out without waiting another limited number of days, I can't remember where I read this though.

This all sounds very complicated but all I know is that in previous years, I have brought a visa on entering Turkey for a May holiday for one week, when coming back for my July holiday I was able to use the same visa as the holiday start and end date were within the 90 days. When I went back again in September, it had ran out so I purchased another one. I assume this would be the same no matter how many days it is valid apart from you can stay for a total of 90 days in one go within that 180 days. Is that right? :?
