THE VETERANS
They ask why we do it,why we still parade
Now that we are getting old and just a little frayed
It's not for the sake of glory and the medals on our chest
It's simply that we're comrades who stood the final test.
So when you see a Veteran, give the man your hand
For those medals on his chest were won on foreign lands
And when god asks the question,"Who are you my man?"
I will proudly answer him,
Sir,I am a Veteran

WE WILL REMEMBER THEM

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget...

We were standing up for the two minute silence remembering all who had given their all for us. We agree with you about the veterans, we should be proud of them all. My OH does not go out without his badge and wears it with pride.

Had a two minute silence at work and a wreath laid in reception where there is a plaque commemorating former employees who died for their country. I always find Armistice and Remembrance Days emotional, but more so than ever this year, as my son has just become a soldier - albeit a junior soldier. I think he and his fellow junior soldiers will be taking part in various parades on Sunday in Harrogate, where their army college is.

Was at work and it was lovely to note that all 90 people on our floor fell silent, and not one phone rang!
Came across this link tonight on the Imperial War Museum site re registering WW1 commemorations in readiness for the 2014 100th anniversary - registered on it straight away and thought others may like to mark their respects by doing so too ..

[hope it's ok to post the link here?]

It seems more people than ever are acknowledging armistice day perhaps because of our more recent conflicts even our local bus pulled over to the side of the road for 1 min at 11.00. Rog

I had a bit of a discussion earlier tonight with Hakan fron Tandoori and he was asking about this topic and what a veteran was

He said I have 2 medals for my tour of duty in Afganistan but I am not a veteran because I am not that old

Yes you are I said you were Helmand province with bullets flying everywhere, you did your 15 months and then were sent back so in my eyes you were a veteran but lucky for you, you are speaking to me now

They Joined for many reasons to march to sail to fly
They went where they were posted
But Nobody joins to Die
Their Leader's Talks on TV...What else could we have done
But those leaders lost no daughters...and none has lost a son
So Here's to all our Soldiers,Sailors,Airmen...wherever they may be
And here's to all there Families
I RAISE A GLASS TO THEE....

Yes we have been to the National Memorial Arboretum at Alrewas several times. Its just off the A38 near Burton on Trent. It is a massive place and well worth a visit if you can make it. It is a very sobering place and will bring a lump to your throat if not tears to the eyes. You need good weather and to visit each corner it will take you the best part of a day. The names of every single person killed abroad since the end of WW11 are engraved in granite walls on the top of a large mound with a gap between two of the walls so the the sun shines through it onto a statue at exactly 11am. each day. There is a large cafeteria there plus loads of information about the place. It is run by volunteers and donations (no government money).

Hi Skilly
Crosses placed in Westminster Abbey for another year,we had another good and emotional day.
Got back 9am this morning

Not having a Non Icmeler Forum now sets me thinking would JT&Rami mind about this posting would they ban me (my way of thinking)but no JTeven joined in, my thanks to you both.
If through the winter with not to much happening on the forum why not google C.O.F.E.P.O.W take a look at what I am so passionate about.
OK I've finished now.

Hi Wimpy,
There is a 'Non Icmeler Chat Thread'. When JT reorganized the Forum layout it was put in the Holiday Chit Chat part as the first "Topic"................... That said I don't think that JT or Rami would protest that this posting was in the wrong place as at least it would be noticed by All.

I didn't think there would be a problem BUT I'm the sort of person that likes to double check.
