CHANGES!

Postby babs 30 » 13 Oct 2011 17:50

Can anyone tell me if they think Icmeler is changing. Its 12months since we have been and
after speaking to friends who were there in July and August they said they saw changes and have
heard some places are closing at the end of this season for good, and the authorities want to
make more places allinclusive and reduce the amount of bars.Does anyone know if this
is true (i hope not)

don't know about changes as such, but we found it soooo quiet in August
Didn't help perhaps that Aegean had just gone under, but we've never known the popular places having empty seats at 8.30/9 at night!
Think it's a combination of tough times at home, airlines going bust and too much competition with the excessive number of places to eat?!

Have to say though that a lot of the lads we've known over the years are now in England, and IOHO, the ones that have replaced them don't seem to have the same respect and courtesy that to us appeared to be inherent before?? Maybe we just notice things more now? The lads this year were all nice enough, but it felt a little false somehow.

Will still be back next year though to see the old faithfuls who are still there.

We were out there 18-28th Sept and thought it was busier than we had seen it for a long time. Only noticeable changes were the stalls missing from the Canal (which we think now looks very sad and desolate) and, of course, the promenade. Dont know why this was changed - it's OK but we liked it the way it was. The old saying comes to mind - "if it aint broke, dont fix it".

Was out there at the end of september. I will agree that the canal looks a bit of a mess but the removal of the stalls has made the town centre a lot busier.
I personally would not like to see the stalls return to the canal but something definitely needs doing with it.

We also preferred the promenade as it was. It looks nice but it now resembles so many other resorts. When walking on the front it's now no different to walking along the front of any spanish resort. Such a shame as we always liked to take photographs there.

So did we. Always thought it was so attractive.

I also prefered it as it was with the canal stalls. It was lovely to walk down there chatting to the stall holders and at night it was beautiful when all lit up. I realy did miss it this year and i for one hope it comes back.

Don't know what's true. Some people say that it was a court decision to remove the stalls so they can't come back whilst others say that they're coming back next year. I hope that they come back though as I always enjoyed the stroll along the canal in the evening. This year we went down there once during the day and didn't go back as we were so disappointed. I hope the area gets tidied up a bit as it looked neglected. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

This year was the first time that we ever went to a restaurant and we were the only ones there. We used to go to the Lemon Tree so we tried the Layla Sultan. During our meal a couple came in for a drink and left after half an hour. When we left it was still deserted and this was in July so I'd be very surprised if they're open next year especially as the meal was nothing special.
