MOBILE PHONE SCAM - BEWARE!

Postby helen2904 » 12 Sep 2011 06:29

Checked my Vodafone contract bill over the weekend and felt it was a little bit high. (this covered my time in Icmeler). I was charged approx. £43 pounds for texts which I had not made. So our daughter went to the bottom of it to try and solve the problem. After spending two hours on the case, It seems that my mobile number was linked to a German number and 95 texts were sent from my number to the same mobile number. We became suspicious as these texts did not show up as sent texts. We tried texting the number to no avail, and we then rang the number which came up as "number unavailable". Apparently many people have had the same problem whilst abroad. Other people have tried informing the Police but they cannot do anything about it and Vodafone don't want to know (as its them that are to blame). They tell you that you should have informed them to block this before you went abroad! They are very crafty. I am so cross with the situation.

So please, all of you BEWARE!!!!!! and check the small print of your contracts (where in very very very small print it will probably be specified). This has also been happening to O2 customers. It has been happening in Greece, France, Spain and many many more destinations.

Hope this helps.

OMG just read this and checked my phone bill as when we went to Icmeler July 15th for two weeks my bill was £79!!! my bill is usally £26 in england, but when i'm in Turkey with all the texting I do with the kids it's usually more than that. I think last year it was about £50. My bill does come out direct debit and I thought flippin eck that's alot but just put it down to the amount of texting and odd phone call so didn't really look into it :(

Just been on Voda website and looked at my bill and there it is, the same number over and over again!! exactly 9 times every day for the whole two weeks  £46. Not a Happy Chappy. So will let you know if I get anywhere with voda phone!!

Right that explains something.

I'm with 3 and my bill which covered our time in Icmeler in July has every text I sent (single figures) shown twice on my bill and every text we'd received from the daughters (double figures) appeared twice and that's what caught our eye had we really received 2 texts at exactly the same minute.

I'll be on the phone to 3 tonight to see what they have to say.

I have just checked my bill from when i was in Turkey in May as the bill was exceptionally high and i put it down to the fact that i forgot to turn the Data Roaming off when i was there!!!

Looking through the itemised bill i have 43 text messages sent to a number that i do not know and when i rang it the number is unavailable!! Most of them are sent 2 at a time as well. Im with Vodafone so am going to read through the small print and see if i can claim anything back. Thanks Helen for making us aware of this

Hi Helen, can I ask what the number was that the texts were sent to?
