Jewellers buying gold

Postby reesy1959 » 06 Sep 2011 17:48

I want a new necklace when I come out in a few weeks time, but I was thinking of bringing all my old gold with me to get the price reduced a little.

Do all the jewellers buy old gold from you, or just a certain few?

Hi Mary
If you want to get a better deal from your old gold hold on to it for the next two years. The price of gold is going up and up and it's tripled in the last few years. Its value is expected to double again by 2013 and then expected to double again by 2020.

Thanks for that Dragon, but to be honest, there is not much there, just a few little bits, hardly worth hanging on to really.

Reesy.
Debbie tried to trade me in at Sultans Jewellers , but got more for her old gold......... , No hassle to buy anything. 2 years ago got a ring, 4 marquis cut diamonds and 7 black diamonds,£500 value here £950, or you could always get something else made with it at the workshops.
Enjoy Steve

I have been thinking of getting something made with it, but not sure if there will be enough. Only 2 rings, couple of broken earrings and a bracelet.

To have an idea of the value of your gold have a look at
http://goldprice.org/gold-price-per-gram.html
You can get the value of your gold per gram in sterling from the chart. Someone on this forum gave details of the price they were offered in a jewellers a few weeks ago. I can't remember which jewellers it was but the price they were offered on that day was higher than the gold rate on that day, so they had a good deal. I think the post came under the heading of 'advice please gold shoppers' or something like that. Hope this helps.

Hi Reesy, I was quoted 107lira per gram........and I think it was me that posted it, that was Sultans, but look around, I dont think Sultans have their own workshop , but may be wrong.

What about gold plated earrings, do they buy them as well, or does it have to be solid gold Steve?

I have taken old gold to Star Gold & Silver and had another piece made from it. He has a workshop on the premises and in fact made me a ring whilst I waited - it turned out lovely. I have had several pieces made or altered by him and his prices are very reasonable. He also cleans your jewellery for nothing - great service. :D
