Can you use Credit Card in local shops

Postby alison14 » 19 Aug 2011 19:10

Hello,

Could anyone let me know if the local shops in Icmeler accept credit card payments? Also is it safe to pay by this method?

Thanks.

Really depends on the shop, not many in my experience have the facility to take them. I bought quite a bit of pandora last year and paid on credit card, they "borrowed" the machine in the bigger jewellers next door. Also, you don't get the discounts you would perhaps normally get through a good bit of bartering, as it costs to process credit card payments.

Depends on your card and the rates they will charge you, but you might be better off getting a cash advance from your credit card in terms of getting more for your money, if you are likely to be a tough barterer! :D

I have used my credit card several times in a couple of the jewellers - they have always processed payment in stirling and no probs when I got home and checked statement - no charges

We always use our credit card in Firuze. Even though you're told to purchase things in the local currency we've found that it is better to buy in GBP. We tried it once in pounds just as a test and the price was higher on the statement. It depends though on what exchange rate is used in the shop. We've also used a credit card to pay for meals a few times in different restaurants over the years. Of course we do the same as we do at home and never lose sight of the card. We've never had any problems whatsoever.
