Hi Icmelerites i am going to be off to our beloved place in 6 weeks time and am also one of the many people struck by Holidays4u going bust so money is extremely tight. I wandered if anyone knew if i could pack us both up with sarnies etc and take it through customs? I know liquids is a no no but wasn't sure where i stood on food. And could anyone let me know of some cheaper places to eat whilst there too. Many thanks :D

Hi
Sorry to hear about your flights. Yes sandwiches are fine to take through and there are loads of cheap places to eat, there are a number of kebab shops and I have heard that Tin Tin's have really great food at affordable prices.

If you are self catering there is also the option of buying rotisserie chicken, salad, etc and having it in the apartment.

not very good with directions but here goes. From Vinces' walk past Champagne Bar and walk to the end of that street, take the first left and walk straight and Tin tins is on your right hand side. There's also a lovely kebab shop next to it.
i'm sure that someone else will be able to give better directions though !! :?

If you know where ICR office is as far as i can remember it is just along past the office and the Scotia. Pass a little clothes shop and you will see it on the corner. Theres an internet cafe beside it and a kebab shop after the internet cafe. If you look at my other thread (photo section) there is a picture of Tin Tin ( pic 17)

We always take food with us to eat on the way and buy liquids to drink in the airport to take with us on the plane as they are cheaper.

An English breakfast is 3 Lira in the Florida which at today's rate is equivalent to £1.10. Nefis Pide is excellent and the lamaçun is lovely especially the cheese one which I think was 5 Lira.

You'll get the best value in the restaurants from the set meals. We had excellent set meals at the Blue Fox and the Paris as well as a lot of excellent meals elsewhere. Loads of the restaurants now seem to offer set meals. As mentioned earlier buying a roast chicken is a good idea and we also made baked potatoes in the apartment at lunch time, as we had a microwave. We also take things like sandwich spread with us and transfer them into plastic takeaway cartons so they weigh less.We also take toaster bags with us to make toasties lunchtime and buy ready sliced cheese in Tansaş.

We also freeze bottled water to take with us in the day. Oh, and by the way you can take liquids through with you in the airport as long as you put it in 100ml bottles up to 1 litre in capacity and put it in the approved plastic bags (Tesco's freezer bags, 20cmsx20cms are cheaper) On our way home we handed in our liquids in Dalaman but didn't remember that we had another bottle in our hand luggage. We only noticed when we were on the plane, so much for security!

Of course don't forget the drinks offer at Tandoori Sizzler which can make a difference to your bill and they also have set meals so you can't go wrong. I'd definitely recommend the Indian set menu. We had three meals there during our stay and would have had more if I hadn't caught a stomach bug.

If you browse through the forum there have been quite a number of postings on cheaper places to eat. Hope this helps :)

I would definetly say give mandalin a try if you have never been. Only 16TL includes the big bread and garlic butter, soup or salad for starter, any chicken or pizza main meal then ice-cream or coffee to finish. We found the food amazing the 2 times we ate there. Chicken bombay and chicken tagliatelle are one's we loved. You can add extra for beef etc. Paris Restaurant is very new and the food in there is lovely and also have the set menu's alongside the reasonably priced normal menu.Efes was only 3TL in there when we went in June too :D Also try Alin's which is really cheap and can take away so easy to buy a chicken and make something to go with it in apartment to save money. Red Lion also offer a set meal for around 16Tl (sorry can't remember the exact price) and they give you a free breakfast/lunch the next day :) Kebab shops are cheap for a chicken wrap which is filling around 5TL-8TL

Mandalin is on the corner along from Cupid's restaraunt before the jeweller's.
Paris: first right after the dream 3 bells or first left after the Alinda hotel
Alin's is at the left of tansas next door to the hairdresser's and across from red lion
Red Lion straight across from tansas

We went to tin tins last night, 20 mins before our drinks arrived, and having asked twice to order food and nobody took our order. After 40 minutes we paid our bill and left.
The guy in charge was more interested in the 4 guys on a table using the c word every other word watching footy than taking our order!!!
Never again!

Sorry to hear that Chris and I would have done exactly the same as you did, voted with my feet. Such a shame as I have only ever heard good reviews about Tin Tins, I hope they would be mortified if they heard of your experience!

I think we're all guilty of swearing and some people do it as if it's there everyday language but i really wish people wouldn't do it when children or other people can hear it, if only they knew what they sounded like. I don't know about anyone else but the C word is the most disgusting and offensive word i've ever heard.
I've only ever heard good reviews of TinTins but if they kept you waiting that long then they don't deserve our custom and wont be getting mine of they entertain foul mouthed people like that. I've had some great reccommendations from some of you and thank you very much. :D :D
