Wednesday Market review.

Postby Chris221273 » 10 Aug 2011 17:02

Went to the Market today.
What can I say, I guess everyone is different but it wasn't for us.
The hassling was just too much, to the point of people grabbing my arm trying to make me back to their stall, and a guy just walking inches behind me constantly trying to get me to buy tobacco.
As I say, everyone is different, but that was the first low point of our holiday.

I once went to one in Side, Antalya and vowed never to go again. I've been to Icmeler the last two years and never been near the market, not even when it's not on.

Don't let it spoil your holiday, just put it down to one of those Turkish delights never to be tried again :D

Keep up the posts, loving reading them 8)

I love the market. I love the haggling, the banter and the majority of the stallholders are fine and will have you in stitches...."cheaper than shoplifting" etc. I find the hairdressers give me more hassle than the market guys and dont forget there are plenty of bargains to be had if you haggle. Dont like to say this being a woman myself but have found most of the women sellers are far worse, if you allow them to try a bracelet on you and you dont want it they get quite annoyed and wont leave you alone, now I just fold my arms and walk on quickly.
Maybe its because I love the bags and shoes etc but I do the Icmeler, Marmaris and Turunc markets each week I am there. For me is magic!

I'll be going to the market but only for food, nothing else. I remember how bad the market was 11 years ago so dread to think what it's like now :-(
At least you can say you've been there, done that. You just didn't buy the t-shirt

Enjoy the rest of your holiday market-free and keep the posts coming, it's almost as good as being there myself :-)

I think you've got to go at least once just for the experience. Like Chocoholic, the hassling doesn't actually bother me that much, but these days, if we do go to the market, we too just go to the fruit and veg bit. It's fantastic - tastes so much better than the stuff we buy over here.
