how did you discover Icmeler

Postby Vikki » 28 Jul 2011 23:26

Was just wondering whilst browsing the boards ,its obvious that many members return to Icmeler year after year ,how did you discover Icmeler ?

Here is how i discovered Icmeler .May 2010 my best friend went to Marmaris was a special birthday for one of her family she didnt book it her sister did, having spent a couple of days in Marmaris she wasnt keen on it at all ,on her 3rd day she decided to take a walk into Icmeler as soon as she got there she felt so chilled out and relaxed and couldnt beleive the difference in the two resorts ,needles to say for the next 6 days she spent every evening in Icmeler and totally fell in love with it ,she felt like her holiday had totally redeemed itself and met all her expectations ,On her return home she came round to our,s armed with duty free's and photos as she knew i was looking to go to Turkey that year and she totally sold Icmeler to us ,our first visit was sept last year and we have booked up again for this sept ,Im so glad my friend decided to take that walk that day and then to come home and share with us this little piece of paradise we call Icmeler..

Hello Vikki.

It's amazing how different Icmeler is to Marmaris, I didn't like Marmaris at all.
My family and I used to go on holiday with another family from Manchester, and usually we went to Spain.. Until we all went to a Travel agent one day, and my mother and her best friend chose a completely new random place to go.. Turkey! I was devastated! I'd never been before and I thought it was some third world country with Camels and Donkeys roaming the cobbled streets! Much to my suprise, within hours of arriving I fell in love with the place! And so did my family! We all can't get enough of the place now, my parents bought a house and we stay all summer. Result!

No doubt you'll have a wonderful time in September! Where are you staying?

way back in 1994 following the troubles in the former Yugoslavia we were looking for another place to holiday. Some of our relatives told us about Icmeler and so began our love affair with our little piece of heavan. We travelled twice a year, every year until my husband became too ill to travel, our last visit being 2007. Oh how this forum keeps my dreams alive. Thankyou to all it's members

I first visited Icmeler in September 1999 with my son (2 at the time) and my parents, they had booked a holiday as a treat for us. None of us had ever visited Turkey but had wanted to for years.
I don't remember quite how we decided upon Icmeler, I suppose price and availability probably had a lot to do with it as it was last minute. :)
I had such a great time, felt totally safe and at ease, it was exactly my kind of place. So much so that my son and I returned May 2000.
I met and fell in love with my future husband on that visit so we returned many times over the course of that summer, always having a great time.
Eventually we moved to Kizkalesi as Mehmet had work there so we never returned to Icmeler again.
After we came back to live in England (for Alexander's schooling) we still visited Mehmet in Kizkalesi where we married :-)
We've not been back to Icmeler since but after years of only being able to afford camping holidays in England which have been great but always ALWAYS bloody wet I decided sod that this year, we're going to have some fun in the sun! Naturally the first place I thought of was Icmeler. Ok, to be honest it was Kizkalesi but I couldn't afford the fare, lol! Icmeler was by no means 2nd choice, it's just that Mehmet is still in Kizkalesi.
We are coming 24th August and Mehmet will be coming too so it'll be a real stroll down memory lane for us, in more ways than one  :-)

Back in 1999 we decided it was time to have a holiday abroad, having 3 girls we could never afford it before then, when our eldest went away to college we went to see travel agent and put it in her hands she recommended Turkey in particular Icmeler so off we went very nervous expecting it to be dusty and dirty, what a surprise !! We all fell in love with everything, we have been to other places in Turkey but always come to Icmeler inbetween we cannot thank that travel agent enough for guiding us in the right direction be there in 4 weeks :D :D

Like others, it was a bit of a happy accident for us, really. We wanted to book a week during the October school holidays some years ago, and my husband wanted to go to Tenerife but the prices were outrageous. The travel agent suggested Turkey - but hubby wasn't keen, thinking it would be dry, dusty and dirty! However, it was a good price and I managed to persuade him that it was only for a week, so we should give it a go. We had an absolute ball and have never been anywhere but Icmeler since! :D Total converts!!

We always used to go to Greece and Spain and I think we had exhausted all of the islands and went into the travel agents and said we wanted somewhere flat and warm in June and she said go to Icmeler, Turkey its a lovely place, I was a bit wary as I had visited Bodrum in 2000 with a friend and we got nothing but hassle, but thought no we will give it a go, and our first stay was at the Efes inn and we instantly fell in love with the place and never looked back, we try and go twice a year, but this year we are going in Sept for 2 weeks instead of the usual 1 week :) it is the best place in the world and people who have never been cannot understand why we keep going back, but we love it and have made some fantastic friends both english and turkish over the few years we have been going and as long as I have a job I will keep going awwwww only 36 more sleeps whooppppp :D

In 2006 we were looking for a honeymoon destination. Friends of ours kept telling us that they off to Icmeler for their holidays again and that we should seriously consider going. So, we thought let's go for it. Icmeler was the perfect place for our honeymoon and we have been back every year since, and we are looking forward to going back again later this year. We have also made some amazing Turkish friends. Would recommend Icmeler to anyone :D

We used to holiday in Marmaris, and on our second or third trip to Marmaris, we decided to go to Icmeler on the Dolmus one evening for a change. We got off the bus at Tansas, and the guy from the Red Lion asked us to go over. Being relatively new Turkey visitors, we went over and went in there to eat. GoGo (Now at De Javu) looked after us all night, and gave us a ride home to Marmaris about Midnight - never looked back since.

I agree with the comments about how safe you feel in Icmeler too, that is another reason to keep going back home to Icmeler.

I forgot to mention that Reesey, the folks are so friendly and you do feel safe there.
We were in Ovacik last month and the people were lovely there too, the scenery wonderful and the food great but.... and here's the but.... it wasnt Icmeler.
Icmeler does have that certain magic eh?

we had been to Marmaris and had a great holiday. the following year we went to Rhodes.as it was the middle of september, you could tell the waiters/bar/hotel staff were just waiting on the end of the season to come and they couldn't really be bothered with you. we decided to go on the rhodes-marmaris day trip. what a difference from the moment we got off the boat. guys along the prom shouting ICE CREAM!!!ICE CREAM!!! loads of good natured banter, it felt great to be back. decided to take a walk up to the hotel we had stayed at the previous year, only to find it under new management who invited us to share his lunch with him. after a little while he told us we must visit icmeler and offered to take us to see it. as it was getting near the time to get the ferry back to rhodes we declined his offer, but when booking for the following year we remembered this guy's enthusiasm about going to Icmeler. we booked, that was 2003. been back every year since. what a find.

We had been going to Cyrpus for years and loved it, then a friend went to Icmeler for a week and came back raving about it so we decided to give it a go and the rest, as they say, is history, first few years one two weekly visit and then when we retired, two three week visists, with sometimes a third twoweeks tucked in once or twice but cannot stand the heat of July/August these days. Now we dont even looked anywhere else, unless it is Istanbul early in the year, Icmeler has become our second home and we have more friends there than we have at home. Roll on September

We first went to Icmeler in 1996, our friends had been and raved about how great it was and what good value.
we went and when we landed it was raining :(
As we travelled to Icmeler everything looked dismal and horrid and i thought 'Oh God were have we come to?
It was still dismal & rainy in the evening but as the night went on and we visited bars and restaurants which our friends knew we became hooked.

We have been every year since apart from 1 when we went to Lanzarote and would now never go anywhere else.
my brother and his wife are coming this year and i so hope they like it as much as we do.
We still have Turkish friends who we met all those years ago. Its a lovely place with lovely people :D

First went to icmeler in 1989 .The now Venice bar used to be the vendick bar we had so much fun in there it was only half the size it is now with holes in the floor for the toilets. I was staying at the la perla now marti la perla. We stayed there once for about 350 pounds half board for 2 weeks then stayed in the marti 2 years on the trot for about 500 for 2 weeks. We have been going ever since. Had a little break to Spain ) gran canaria gumbet antalia kussadassi kemar but always get drawn to back to icmeler. My grandson is 17 this year and he's been to icmeler 22 times with us. My granddaughter who is 14 another one who is 7 only want to go to icmeler they love it. But what drew us there was we went to Rhodes one year. The owner of the apartments hated the Turks on a clear day she would sit with her back to window so she could not see turkey. On a misty day she would look out of the window. When I was talking to other guest there mainly German they said turkey was very nice haven't looked back since. :D

We booked for Marmaris about 4 years ago simply because it was the cheapest destination on the TC site. Didn't really fancy Turkey to be honest.
I put a post on a Hearts forum (Jambos Kickback) asking about Marmaris when along came Blondie saying that Icmeler was better, so we duly got a water taxi along one day and apart from this June in Marmaris we keep returning (hopefully in Sept. as well).
