I am new to Turkey, never been before. Are there banks in Icmeler which will take a visa debit card and will there be charges?

Hi austinp

if you are thinking of using banks to get your money in Turkish lira, please be aware you will get a better rate at the supermarkets, restaurants, bars, etc. Don't even go near the Change bureaus, as you wont get such a good rate. We always use the little supermarket near ICR offices.... Take your passport if you are wanting to exchange travellers cheques, they will then note your passport number and you just need to put that number on back of any other traveller cheques in the future.
Enjoy your first holiday in Icmeler, I'm sure you will be another convert very soon

hiya yes you will be able to use your debit card, small charge applies but each bank is different. I went into my bank and they explained it all to me and give me information leaflets :)

we have a halifax clarity credit card which we used in the atms, the rate in the resort was 2.50 at the time and we got 2.55 on the card, we were not charged for any of our transactions

Use your debit card at any of the official bank ATM's just as you do at home, but if asked you want the transaction in Turkish Lira its a far better exchange rate than the transaction being done in pounds.

This also applies to using your debit card anywhere abroad.

We did it the other week and having checked out account upon return everyone was at a far better rate than any exchange offered.

BUT

limit your withdrawals, obviously the more times you visit the more its costs you.
Your better off taking a good few hundred in one transaction than say hundred one day and a hundred the next because that's twice you'll pay commission rather than once if you get my drift.
