I was in the a shop at the end of july where a couple were using the phone to cancel credit cards etc.
The poor woman had been in hospital during her holiday and her husband had gone back to the hotel for a sleep (dont recall the name but it started with G). Anyway when he woke his trousers were gone with his wallet having been in the pocket - they were obviously in a real hurry not to take them out the pocket.

When we arrived at out apartment we were advised by the owner to double check all the doors / windows at night as there had been alot of theft at night this year, i thought he just been over cautious with us.

God that seems pretty bad? I have never heard of anythign like this before-well not in Icmeler anyway, although I did get robbed a few years back in Italy. Its the most horrible feeling ever especially when I had just landed and was not even out of the airport and a gypsy type woman and her kids had my bag and were away like a shot-even worse it had my passport and everythign else in with it. All I would advise is be 200% observant in these situations as you never know who is watching you and what they are about to do. I think people tend to relax and let their guard down when they are on holiday so its perfect for them.

When we have been in Icmeler there has always been 2 keys to the safe, one kept by us and one kept by the owner. You then need both keys to open the safe. This I think is a very good safety measure. We always keep everything in the safe: mobile phone, money, bank cards, passports, tickets, we only take out what we will need for the day. I hope you get it all sorted it must be a nightmare. Di.

I think its worth remembering that this can happen anywhere in the world, just so we don't all suddenly blame Icmeler and go off the place :D

And that it is a rarity. Generally, I think, most of us have only had good things to say about Icmeler and the people who work and live there. My friend had her credit card taken from her at a cash machine by an opportunist while she was drunk and the people could not have been more shocked and upset. The bar owner cancelled our bill, the police went out looking for the culprit and the waiters took us out for the night to cheer us up, and there was a new card waiting for her when we got home - with no money stolen from her account. Bad things happen everywhere if you're not vigilant, but I for one, was glad that we were there surrounded by such great people when it did.

Couldnt agree more with you! We also have the same procedure as Diane in our hotel, which is excellent and means that if your key goes missing then at least nobody can get into your safe without the other key. We also leave everything in our safe and its the first thing we do when we arrive. Better safe than sorry!

Just a note on safety deposit boxes, I stayed in a hotel a few years ago in Icmeler, on going to the safety box one morning i put the hotels key you need in the wrong side and found that the hotels key opened my box on its own, this meant they had access to our box

I did complain and of course they looked shocked but you never know, it does happen, it's worth just checking the keys :D

Call me daft but I follow my nan with regards to keeping money safe - not under the mattress, but in lots of different places - false bottomed toilettries, lining of the suitcase, bottom of dirty laundry bag (quite frankly they deserve it if they are going rummaging through my grotty stuff after a day in the sunshine!), in pockets of items in wardrobe - that way you have to be exceptionally unlucky to lose absolutely everything. But I would just like to re-inforce the issue that robbery whilst sleeping, or any other time, is very definitely not the standard for Icmeler - usually people there give you things, rather than take them away!

we are going to the minimote appts in sept and have been told that there are no safety deposit boxes there and anything of value can be kept in the owners safe. i am a bit worried about that so i'm taking travellers cheques, not cash to be doubly sure if anything goes missing.
we've always felt safe in icmeler, when we go to the beach we leave our bag (granted there's not a lot of money in it) when we go into the sea and nothing has ever been touched.

Skilly, you may be as well PMing Admin at ICR to see if they can suggest anything - maybe they have safes to hire?? Don't want to worry you, but money /travel cheques can be replaced, but what about your passports?

Also, we've stayed where Di did where you need 2 keys to open your safe which is in the office, but have stayed at another place too where the "hotel's" key was freely available and guests just helped themselves to it from an open drawer in reception and there were never any staff in there, so best make sure you are well insured and as always on your guard

Hi everyone

One tip that we recommend to all our customers, is when travelling abroad also make a seperate note of your passport number and in case of any loss or theft of your passport especially, it will be alot easier to organise a replacement passport with the consulate because they have the passport number to hand if supplied by you. This can save alot of time and frustration.

How much would it be to rent a safe, Admin. Would there be 2 keys one for you & one for us and also is there someone in your office all the time in case of burglaries. I am really worried about where we can leave our valuables, especially passports.

1 key for you and we keep one in our safe in case you lose one.

If you lose one then you will pay for another.

I wasn't prepared for you to question me about my safes though as I offered it to you as a favour.

Maybe it will be better that you just pay a lot of money for your safe in your accomodation and then I will not have you in my office questioning me.

Jeez you try to help and..................

Admin

That was a bit harsh and uncalled for.

Have I missed something? Did admin not say there were safes available to hire? Surely Skilly was just asking for more information on this service? Information which would come in handy for all of us? I dont understand what the problem is with that?? :?
