Review of Hol 29th June until 13th July 2011.

Postby Tim Tighe » 14 Jul 2011 15:04

Hi All - just got back at 2am this morning and thought I would post a review of hols - Sorry it is long but a lot to pack in. I have been going with family from 2002-2008 each year missed a couple of years before this one so quite a few changes.

Restaurants - Tried Friends, Tandoori Sizzler, Dreamboys, Romance Palace, Majestic and Venice -
Friends was busy on most nights, now has Yahya from Dreamboys working there and still climbing tree with Fishbowls on head - Food good but not cheap, shorts weak!
Tandoori Sizzler, tried both Indian & Chinese plus Sunday roast. Indian fantastic just like at home, Chinese very poor chicken & Sweetcorn soup worst we had anywhere and curry powdery. Sunday roast was again superb. Dreamboys has completely lost its atmosphere with generally unfriendly staff and agressive greeters! Although new chef has improved the food to good standard.
Romance Palace - Good food and entertainment
Majestic & Venice - Reliable as ever although a bit quiet due to the loss of the market stalls, which I cannot emphasise enough is a huge loss to the charisma of Icmeler.

PLEASE NOTE - we were told by more than a handful of different people that they are having huge problems in Icmeler this year with their lamb supplies - it is really tough and not as many places serving the national dish of leg of lamb as they cannot get decent lamb.

Icmeler Market
Far more agressive than previous years, with touching and putting arm around the shoulder type of thing - found this over powering, did not find anything on market that I could not get from shops in Icmeler, in fact got it cheaper in many shops - highly recommend shop next to Aysima restaurant - young fellow 3 Lyle & Scott or Lacoste polo's for £10 (25tl). 3 of the GStar, Henley cotton tops better quality for £20 (50tl) and Lacoste & Ralph Lauren cotton quality t-shirts £8 each (20tl). For the ladies just across the road from here Jewellery selling Pandora bracelets 16oz not 10oz like many shops for £20 (50tl) and charms for them at £10 each. Ugg boots and Converse trainers everywhere to be bought, but nobody in our party of 5 into them so not sure how good a copy they were.

Icmeler itself
Loved it as always a lot of changes since 2008 - canal ruined by removal of market stalls, promenade still lovely to walk along, people generally as friendly as ever with less hassle than I remember (apart from the market) Old village not so old now with many new villas springing up alongside new restaurants - loved the sigh outside the "Robin Hood" which read Husband creche - leave him here whilst you go shopping, he will be bottle fed ;)

Turkish Bath
Booked with Michelle at Icmeleronline office, done at the Mersoy, sauna, turkish bath, facepack, oil massage took approx 90mins and cost a £10 each and we got collected from our apartments - absolute bargain!

Boat trip
Having been on them all in the past, just took a lazy day all inclusive boat trip with drinks and lunch thrown in again great value for a tenner each booked with "Kev" next to Friends restaurant.

Additional info
Weather is apparently going to hit 65 in August and will hit the 50's next week !! Change your money in supermarkets better rates and no commission - we got between 2.57 and 2.59 from Jimmy at "Asda" along from Deja Vu bar.
If scared of heights do not look out of window as you travel up the road into Marmaris before arriving - still working on the roads and drop is staggering especially as standards of driving isn't improving ;(

If anybody has any further questions feel free to ask ;)

Aysima is at the bottom of the square opposite harrys steak house or just to the left of the ICR office and Tandoori sizzler

Only if you have a drink and they do take pictures with a poor camera then try and get you to buy them on disc before you leave - we told them we have pictures from a previous visit to turkish bath and left with no hassle ;)

That's the bit that's worrying me now!

I have a really bad phobia about driving/being driven and I have to say it's only ever got worse whenever I've been in Turkey as the driving is appalling!
We are arriving during the night so I would have been oblivious to any road conditions on the transfer but now I'm bricking it and I've still got 5 weeks and 5 days left to get myself into a complete state of panic!
I think an emergency bottle of vod is called for for the transfer journey :)

Love this quote above, I have copied and pasted it. Just love the bit about the sign outside the Robin Hood, that is brilliant. I wonder if it covers Dad's as well?? I might need a Dad creche as he is with me this year!
