I always get a dry tickly cough when I come home and I put it down to the plane's air conditioning - never get it on the way out to Icmeler, its always on the way home without fail. It's telling me not to come back to the UK really.

I always get a sore throat and lose my voice with air con. The way round it for me has been to leave the window/balcony door open a bit although some air con systems do not work with balcony door open. In July or August air con is essential, other months you can use a fan- some accomadation will hire them out or you could buy one from Tansas in
Marmaris but it will need to be hidden when room unoccupied as some do not allow- unless you come clean and offer payment toward electricity.

A lot of people get colds etc when they arrive back in the UK but very rarely when you're there, same with anywhere with a hotter climate than us. It has nothing to do with air con it's your body temp dropping when you get home, don't forget your body has endured 50 odd degrees of heat over there, then you hit on at most 25 in high season in the uk, something is going to suffer.

Hi Adewolves - Now that I am home I feel much better - I think that due to the air conditioning - my body was experiencing hot and cold conditions throughout the hols - roasting during day, go to bed with air con on, wake up freezing, turn off, wake up warm so put air con back on and so on, so I think it was the extreme temps on hols - I never get ill (never missed day of work for 4 years - go on holiday and end up with chest infection and sore throat and sore cough) Probably relaxing made me ill

Its the best Air Con I have experienced ironically....

Aircon in your car has been proven to give you a bad throat due to the air being dry opposed to naturally moist!
My friend and her friend came back from
Marmaris today and they both suffered with bad throats and had to spend £6 for some strepsils in a chemist,
So yes, aircon can aggregate your throat.

Yes, it's quite common for air conditioning to cause chest infections.
If I need air con I only use it when absolutely necessary for short spells and never, ever leave it on all night.

I think a major issue is people set their aircon to too low a temperature, we have done this in the past, we now have it very low when we first go back to the apartment to cool it down but before we go to sleep we set it to 23-25C, its then not on all night and doesn't work as hard to keep the temperature down, so we go to sleep with quite a cool apartment which may warm up slightly during the night but we have found this much more comfortable and don't wake up with a very dry mouth and throat.

Suffer with a bad chest when we use air con, so do pretty much what Dave does now and it doesn't seem as bad.
Turkish friends of ours try to avoid air con around young babies because of the problems it can cause......must be a 'mare for them in August and July

I never use the air conditioning, personally i find it does make you feel iffy, went on a cruise and came off with infections in both ears which required anti biotics ! ! I prefer to acclimatise myself. I know when i am starting to pull the sheets over myself on a night thats a good sign.
