excess baggage charges

Postby Larrie » 10 Jul 2011 20:50

Have just got back from icmeler and thought would warn anyone flying with T....... F.. that at departures from B'ham not only were they checking and charging for excess weight in cases but were weighing hand luggage! Having been caught out (and paid the price!) wanted to warn everyone else.

They were also doing this at Glasgow when we flew (that was with Onur Air) and also at return from Dalaman. Wasn't happening to everyone - just those whose hand luggage looked heavy or bulky, it seemed.

Isn't that the point, that they weigh your luggage, including hand luggagr, and you not take more than what your allowed??
Sorry but I don't understand this post.

I always have a little trolley case cabin size for hand luggage on the plane and put it out of sight behind the desk so they cant see it whilst my big case is getting weighed. Have never had it weighed yet- not even at Dalaman. Think it may be luck and depends on who you get checking your baggage in.

I've had my hand luggage weighed several times, think it depends on who's check in you go to, I always try and get a man and give him a few smiles and chat, keep him busy lol

Remeber though they can refuse it if it is too big and make you check it in, then you will be stuffed for extra charges

I've frequently had my hand luggage weighed with various airlines flying from Manchester. Sometimes whilst standing in the queue you can see that certain check-in personnel are asking for hand luggage to be weighed and other's aren't, but my luck has always been that I get the one which does!

we fly E****** and there is no weight restriction with hand luggage although you are not allowed an over sized bag, and you have to be able to lift it into the overhead locker yourself :D :D (hubby like Schwarzenegger when he has finished)

Also don't forget your hand luggage can be challenged at the gate before boarding, I have seen that happen in the past (But not to Turkey but it's possible).
