Hello folks,
Can anyone tell me anything about the wee man who wheels his barrow laden with stuff, through the streets of Icmeler. Used to stop at Diva cafe/bar and he would wander by, usually late at night. He's like a local character. He just came into my head and thought I'd ask if anyone knows anything about him.
Cheers,
Carol

I dont think he is a 'down and out', rather a disabled man with terrible pain in his feet who is not afforded the help or support those in the UK would get. He has to support himself. I have seen him set up in several places and normally stops for a drink of water at the loveboat /chef area late at night. I always give him some money when we see him.
Poor man always looks in pain

We were in
Icmeler last week and on our last day saw this man walking along the promenade. I had only just remarked that we hadnt seen him for a couple of years and wondered whether he was still around. My husband a couple of years ago offered him some money outside the supermarket but the owner said he wouldnt take it. In the end he accepted a large bottle of coke and a packet of cigarettes, that is all he wanted. As has been said, out in Turkey people arent as fortunate as some in this country. It is pitiful to see this poor man.

Didn't mean to offend. Just think he looks like a poor soul. Will certainly offer or buy him something next time I see him.

I dont think you offended anyone, but sometimes we judge on what we see without knowing the story. A good friend of ours who lives in
Icmeler told us his story, he is a proud man - he wont beg and just wants to earn enough to keep him going. The sad thing is times are moving and there is not many people who go out in 'polishable' shoes at night so i would imagine he struggles bless him

I am sure you didnt mean to offend. How very true, his business must be slow regarding the shoes! As has been said he is a proud man, but you cant help but feel for him.
