Walking to Turunc

Postby bilbo1161 » 21 Jun 2011 18:00

Hi
I'm off to Icmeler for the 3rd year in a row in a couple of weeks. Stopping at Greenworld again.
The mrs enjoys laying around the pool all day everyday, but I soon get bored with this.
I've seen that you can walk to Marmaris and plan on doing this at least once. Also hoping to have a scramble up to the flag, so if anyone has any tips on how to get to the flag, please let me know.

The other question is, can you walk to Turunc? Either along the coast or through the mountains?
How long would it take? And is it worth the effort?

Thanks.

Can't wait :-)

Hi Bilbo1161, I dont think that its possible to walk along the coast to Turunc (although this would be the quickest way to walk by far) but having travelled by dolmus back from there I know that its a VERY long walk and very mountinous.I suppose you could always try it and flag down a dolmus if you got too knackered ! :D Good luck if you try it.Mark.

Thanks Mark.
Is there much in Turunc?
Is there a boat taxi to and from?

Now thats a MUCH better idea.Yes you can get the taxi boat from icmeler (or marmaris) both ways and it is a lovely little trip. Another idea would be to get the boat over there and maybe get the dolmus back - the views as you come over the mountain and look down on Icmeler are fantastic. Turunc is a small kind of place with a few cafes and restuarants and quite a nice beach area - well worth a look. Mark.

Only just seen this post. I can assure you it is a very long way to walk. My wife and i did it in September and it was very warm, warmer than normal that time of year. Would we do it again, maybe but rest assured it is a very long walk and it is not for the faint hearted. The Marmaris Icmeler walk is tame by comparison. We were stopped by three different people offering us lifts due to the distance and declined them all - more fool ourselves after they disappeared down the windy mountian roads. Hope you managed it if you tried and good luck for next time if you are going to give it a whirl.

I am tempted to try it when I'm next there. I went on the back of a moped previously with a friend (local) so he knew where he was going and it was a really nice thing to do but would like to go and have a walk round and have lunch as you guys have said. Is it really that hard to walk? Be honest. :)

Always intended to go to Turunc on the water taxis but always put it off when I think of the hassle of getting my electric scooter on and off the boat. Any other wheelchair users used the water taxis? I have been on boat trips before but that was with a manual wheelchair which was a lot lighter. What day is market day in Turunc?

Hi Dragon,
Market day in Turunc is Monday, and reading on the forum, Electric wheelchair users have not had a problem on the water taxi's. :D (Dodomo) beat me to it)
Sami,
I know Mark (MARCAV) and Tracey, and believe me, I would not have even attempted the walk they did, compared to this walk, the Flag is Easy...It took around 4 hours and at Turunc he drank at least 3 litres of water, having said that, the last time Mark and Tracey took the dogs from the home, out for a walk, the "owners" went looking for them as they were out that long walking them.

Thanks Doreen and Steve. A trip to Turunc will be a must next July. We'll go on a Monday to catch the market as it's an impossibility in Içmeler due to the hill. Tried it once, never again! Yet another thing to look forward to :)

It was a mammoth walk but if your up for it anything is possible. It was JT who told us how far it is and we did it spur of the moment, nothing had been planned. I would defo do it again the only thing i would change is my footwear, flip flops werent ideal but they got me there. It really isnt that far but its never ending going up that hill which is so windy and it feels like you are getting nowhere. Once you get to the peak and the beehives its all downhill from there. There are little stalls roadside selling honey near the hives even though it is so remote. Good luck if anybody is giving it a go but as i said earlier it really isnt that bad, make sure you have plenty of water and choose your footwear carefully. The good thing is when you reach your destination you can chill with a beer/coke/water and a lovely bite to eat with the fab view most of us have experienced before. I was only giving the pooches a good wander, we werent planning on fetching em back with us but we were gone a while. :D :D
