I know how you feel katie.
A couple of years ago i went into one of the cash exchange shops after seeing a good rate on their board and got much less than advertised.I was told that i would have got it had i changed £200. I don't use them anymore only the shop under ICR office.

katie i think you will find 2.6 is the banking rate, post office on line service is only giving 2.502 to the pound

p.s. i would be happy with 2.5 when i go for mine

I looked on the Post Office website last week and their exchange rate was 2.46. When i went to my local post office and asked how much i would get for £500 i was told the rate for that day was 2.36.. When i said the website quoted 2.46 i was informed you only get 2.46 if you buy £1,000 worth of Lira...I wanted to buy some Lira because i feared the exchange rate would drop by the time we arrived in August. This only being our 3rd holiday in Turkey 2.46 looked good to us because the most we have ever got in Icmeler was 2.34 last year..Went to my bank, ( RBS) and they offered 2.46...Obviously went with that one as we got 200 Lira more than the Post Office was giving...Swings and roundabouts i know but, no one wants to miss out on 200 Lira do they....Just have to wait until August to spend it now.... 8) 8)

Hi Biddy

I think you may have got your maths wrong if you changed £500

Post Office £500*2.36 = 1180 Lira
RBS £500*2.46 = 1230 Lira

So only 50 lira more unless you changed £2000

i've just came back in from tesco and seen there doing in store for 2.504

i was gona cash in a few weeks ago when it was at it's peak but i've still about 50lira left from my last hols so that's plenty, and will just cash sterling notes in resort under ICR as that is always getting touted as the best rate.

tbh anywhere above 2.50 now and that's a good benchmark to work it out. Any more is a bonus

Today's rate in the resort is 2.57 offered commission free at several shops and bars. I myself got 2.60 at the wonderboys bar 5 mins ago.

Hi Dave, I did not get my maths wrong, what i failed to mention ealier was the quote i was given by the Post Office. For £500 they would give me 1,030 lira. I know that 2.36 lira to the £ would get me 1180 lira but the quote they gave me was less..There was also another couple in there at that time who wanted to change sterling and like me could also see that something was not quite right... 200 lira is 200 lira it was not a small amount..I expect the rate to vary depending where you go,like i said swings and roundabouts, but not when it adds up to that...
