Icmeler compared to --

Postby scunny jim » 17 Jun 2011 07:49

The British Isles there is no comparison at all. Icmeler is everything that Britain should be [ forget about the weather ]Me and the significant other half totally adore the place, my only problem with it is i don`t live there yet. Working on this problem though.

Hi, my partner and I are interested in buying an apartment in Icmeler. I have heard that it can be a legal minefield but assume that with the correct assistance its safe. Does it complicate things if we were to buy to holiday/rent out for now with a view to retiring there in about seven years? Any general help would be appreciated. Thanks. Mark.

Yes Icmeler is beautiful but I have to disagree about Britain. We have some fantastic seasides. We cannot afford our holidays abroad at the minute so we went to St Ives camping Spring Bank week and we had fantastic weather, when we look at the photos it looks like we could have easily been abroad, lovely sand, clean etc. I love Icmeler as much as everybody else on here but our Country has beautiful places too so I am quite happy to holiday here for the time being :D

Much as I enjoy my holiday to Icmeler i think that is best left as a short break. icmeler off season will be very quiet its cold and also wet during winter and I think that would to an extent tarnish the memories.if anyone is serious about retiring to Icmeler i think that you would really need to do your research to see if that would be the life you wish

i also love holidaying in Scotland particularly the Outer Hebrides and extreme north west of Scotland. The beaches are fabulous there are virtualyy no people and the peace and quiet is something to savour. If I had the choice, Scotland wins every time

Hi Mark:
We bought in Icmeler 6 years ago and have not regretted it. There have been mostly highs but also a few lows but nothing to do with either the Turks, or the Turkish system. I think that if you are a flexible person, you can deal with most things. We bought "The Sunday Times Buying A Property in Turkey" guide by John Howell & Tim Locke, and it is in the Cadogan Guides series. We found this extremely useful in explaining the selling/buying process, the pitfalls to be wary of, the legal system, the tax system, and much else besides. It is easy to read and follow and contained lots of useful advuice as well. We used a Turkish estate agent who was excellent and guided us through the whole process, saving us a lot of time, worry and expense. We bought it for our own family use but thought of renting. However, once we had done the complete renovation/refurbishment (the property was 20 years old), and bought everything from new, we went right off the idea of renting because it had become our "home", and we did not want strangers using it and maybe damaging stuff that was important to us. I am sure there will be no shortage of Forum members who have bought property and who will be willing to offer advice if you need it.

Thank you for your help Mike. I have found the book on Amazon and I am going to order it and take a read as my next step.I can understand that after putting so much work into it that you did not feel like renting "your bit of Icmeler" out. :D Mark.
