Recent Icmeler weather

Postby dejavu » 13 Jun 2011 12:56

Just back from 3 weeks in Icmeler and the weather was mostly good. The sea was on the 'cool' side but really great once you had taken the plunge and stopped dithering. After five days of sun (average 30-32c) we had three days of thunderstorms which took about 5 days to clear properly (very tough for those who had only gone for a week's holiday). After that it was back to blue skies but getting hotter by the day so that it seemed much too hot for early June. We left on Friday 10 June and at 9.30 am it was 34c, but by lunchtime it was 39c on the Marti Temperature Display. High temps so early in the season do seem to bring in more storms, and they don't clear as quickly as they do in July-August. On the way to the airport early evening it was looking very stormy inland and inside the airport it was swelteringly hot. Fortunately, they increased the air-con but not until the check-in queues were visibly wilting and soaked in sweat, and even the check-in staff were flagging.

Yes, having this weather was not what we expected but did not keep us in. Being in Icmeler is enough to keep a smile on your face and as we all know the weather is outwith our control so you just get on with it. The shops were enjoying us all spending and not so happy when the sun shone as they were empty.

We were there last year for three weeks until beginning of July and that was the first year in many in June that we were cold in the evening. We had to buy pashminas, funny thing was though for the first week we got there it was sweltering at night but then got cold. Usually gets hotter toward July.
Was still nice being there but all the same........ weird weather and I dont think its just Turkey. It seems to be in many countries.

As already said it was a bit cold and windy some nights a couple of weeks ago and some of the restaurants had pashminas for customer use - very thoughtful. Just another example of people not being able to do enough for you. Where would you get that kind of service at home?

I'm sure the weather will soon settle, I was there the last week of may - storms, scary lightning, rain, sun, cloud the only thing we didn't get was hail and snow.... but at least the rain was warmer than at home and when the sun came out it was scorching hot, it didn't ruin the holiday, we just shopped more, ate more and drank more   and still came back with good suntans :D

I've been earlier in May in previous years and had far more settled weather, it's all very odd.

So if you're worried pack a small brolly.. often if it rains it's very short-lived and soon clears, but for all of you due to fly out shortly I hope the sun has his hat firmly stuck on his head for you :D
