Rock Bars

Postby TriumphNed » 08 Jun 2011 16:31

Having checked it out last week, I can now confirm for those interested that we didnt find any Rock in Icemeler, but there are now four Rock Bars in Marmaris Bar St. Starting at the Bazaar end, the first bar "Papa Rock" is early on, on the right side, but we never saw anyone in it. A few feet on, but on the left side is "Rock Bar" (http://www.rockbarmarmaris.com). This was our favourite- good layout and decor (and good toilets), great music all night, and BOGOF drinks til 4.00AM. We used to start and end the night there. Further along on the left is the "B52", which is a Turkish Rock bar, with live bands at the weekend, and then "Davy Jones' Locker" on the right. This is the grungiest bar, but does have a window you can sit in and watch the world go by, while listening to better music than is booming out of the clubs.
When you have passed these, when you come to the end of the street head left for 100 yards to "the Lighthouse". This is a nice little bar, that does play the odd rock track, but is just a laid back place to chill after the chaos of Bar St. 8)

Can't say what prices were like in the dance clubs, but were paying 7 or 8 TL for a beer, 8 or 9 for a short and mixer. In the Rock bar BOGOF that was pretty good, but else where a bit steep.
Cider was dear, 12 TL, and cocktails 14 TL, and not in the offer.
You could get BOGOF cocktails on Long beach for about 10 TL, but you don't get much alchohol in them for that.
The taxi back to Icmeler was about 45 TL if you got one at the Lighthouse end of the street, or 40 from the Bazaar end.

I can't guarantee a play list, but they seem to start the night (well 10.00 ish) with "Classic Rock" -Led Zep, Deep Purple, G 'N' R, Thin Lizzy, Doors and the like. Around midnight it was more modern stuff- Blink 182, MCR, Muse, Kings of Leon, Killers, Green Day. Then later on it got heavier- Nirvana, Korn, Rage against the Machine, Papa Roach, Metallica etc.
I think they want to attract your passing older type first, the younger drunker type next (especially with the BOGOFF) and than the hard core later on, which included more locals.
We were in the Rock Bar around 11 ish, asked for some Rammstein, and were told "Oh no- that comes later!". Never did hear it, but the latest we were in was 2.00 AM and it's open till 4.00 AM. 8)

Thank You so much for this update. :D For a long time now I have wished and longed for a rock bar in Icmeler. Yes the taxi back might be a bit steep but between a group of you that is do-able. :D

I have quite a diverse taste in music but Rock/Metal is where my heart really lies.

2/3 Years ago Metallica filled the Galatasaray stadium for 2 nights in Turkey so there is a big following over there. The heaviest i have heard in icmeler is rockstar by nickleback and a couple of green day tracks. Green Day are my fav band but after a few drinks I like a good mosh.

Colette we might have to venture to Bar Street when we are there next. Drinks first in icmeler and water in Bar Street me thinks...

Rock on everyone....\,,/ (@@) \,,/

Sounds perfect to me, might be able to get my sister in there, but unfortuantely I don't think I'll get her to hang around for the heavier stuff! :-(

And that is in the rock bar i take it?

Thank you for your info. LMM

This is at the Rock Bar. You can't miss it- it has blue neon guitar on one side wall as you come from the Bazaar, and a giant red guitar over the entrance. Davy Jones Locker seemed to do the same- heavier as the night goes on.
