Just embrace everything about the place, the most lovely people you're ever likely to meet. The most amazing food you will ever eat, breathtaking pine mountains and fantastic sunshine. Oh yes and as collette said drink plenty of effes. Enjoy you will go back.

One tip I will give to a new comer is don't be offended if you think the hassel is over the top, the restaurant front guys are there to get business in, I have always found a polite no and a smile is all you need, don't say you will be back or see you tomorrow as they will remember you and it makes it more difficult next time.

When we started visiting in 2002 the hassel was really bad, (it's mild now) I never ever stopped, just a no thanks and carried on walking but then a few years back there were some restaurants we wanted to try on recommendations from this site but wanted to look at the menu's without the big sell, our plan was to checkout the restaurants on the way back to the apartments at the end of the night after the kitchens had closed, we found there was actually no pressure and we had some great conversations with the guys who were really helpful, now if I am interested in a particluar restaurant I will stop, have a chat with the frontman, exchange names, have a look at the menu as a family and then make a decision.

I have made some great acquaintances over the years, it's hard to say friends as its more of a business relationship, however saying that there are three or four people who we stay in touch with all year round who I would consider more of a friend and look forward to seeing each year.

whos going?

a couple of value for money trips would be the lazy day boat cruse and the jeep safari. take squirty guns on the jeep safari and keep the camera in a water proof bag. youll see why if you go. the kids will love it. im 44 and i still love it

as dave said the lads work on commision but a polit no works for me. dont promise to go later. its amazing how they remember people and theyll hold you to it. dont be worried tho, its all very friendly banter. belive me your gona love it.

take some english money. you can spend it in the market and get some good deals.

the airport going home is very expensive. about £20 for a macdonald meal so take something with you.

I'd just like to add weight to the above comment about the staff remembering you - the staff have a phenomenal ability to remember not only what you said (eg next time / tomorrow etc) but your names too - it's amazing and what a skill :D ....... it's all done to help you feel special, is what we thought and we never felt hassled at all - wish we were there :D

I agree with all the above comments. I first went 2003 and was having withdrawal symptoms til I finally managed to book my annual visit to Icmeler for July. Not only will you find the local people very friendly it curiously has a knock on effect with all the visitors and I have met some amazing people most of whom I still keep in contact with. You will be a convert. Never had a bad meal infact choosing where to go each day is the most taxing thing I have to do. Efes is great and it is the only place that I have got merry in a jewellers and a supermarket.....You will be booking for next year before you know it. Enjoy. I am counting down my 5 weeks.. 8)

Been there, done that and it cost me a fortune

It's just so civilised looking at Jewellry while drinking Efes and wine.
