does anybody know if its worth waiting till you get to icmeler to buy certain toiletries such as shower gel, shaving gel, hair lacquer etc as they weigh so heavy and take up a load of room in the case, or are they too expensive there? i usually buy everything at savers before i go which is 3 wks on Friday 8) 8) yippeeee

I ran out of shower gel etc last year and found toiletries to be expensive over there. Plus I couldn't find my shampoo over there.

Interested to see if people who have been this year think they are cheaper?

skilly, another option is to take you shower gel, shampoo etc with you as I do, then when it is time for me to come home I give what is left to the staff at my hotel, as these things are dear and they are not on very much wages, believe me it is worth it just to see the look on their faces and you have extra room in your case for all those things you buy there, something to think about, enjoy when you get there I wish it was me :) :)

I would buy everything you need before you go, especially if you like to use a particular brand as there's no guarantee you'll be able to get it. As Colette says toiletry items are generally more expensive over there.

You could always buy "mini size" things which may lighten the load a bit - places like Superdrug have quite a large range of mini-sized toiletries these days - or even get some screw-cap bottles and decant as much you you think you'll need to save taking the full sized product.

Like Jules, I always leave behind what I haven't used for anyone who wants it - which creates more space in my suitcase to bring back what I've bought out there

I would definately say buy your toiletries back in England a typical can of hairspray starts around 10 YTL in the shops up to 25YTL in the hairdressers. Shampoo can range from 5YTL upwards depending on the brand., cosmetics also are quite expensive .Id say buy before you come over, it will leave you more money for enjoying yourself :D

Skilly like you i wondered if i should just buy things across there - especially since there is two of us going. Decided just to buy everything here (from savers) and realised that i would have much more space for bringing back goodies when i return home.

2 weeks to go - woo hoo :D  :D  :D

Another idea might be to take half finished bottles of the toilettries that you prefer to use from home, that way they are not as heavy flying out and you can throw the bottles away over there, leaving you space to bring back goodies!

I always buy toiletries to take with us, and I would like to pass this tip onto you double wrap them, including your suntan lotions in cling film, because of air pressure during the flight they can ooze out all over the place, I know and the mess is dreadful. Also when wrapped this way it is quite safe to put them into your suitcase, instead of having all that weight in your hand luggage.

NIce one Skilly - we leave ours behind too

Once had a bad experience with some cocoa butter after sun, so now before we do I always tape the tops up and put them in butty bags, then put a few in a supermarket bag and wrap the towels round them - we take a sports holdall.

Loads of room for bargains on the way home too!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont know about toiletries being dear, but Baked Beans cost the earth so we always take some Heinz ones too
