Hi everyone

I am so angry at the moment I could SCREAM

I've just been reading the Sunday Mail, Travel Mail Special.
Which has a list of prices for day to day items in different Countries

The Prices that Frank Barrett has put down for Turkey is a Joke (A joke that could stop people visiting Turkey)

Here is a few of what he has put for Marmaris prices

Spain Turkey(Marmaris)
cup of coffee £1.13 £2.19
bottle local beer £1.89 £2.19
bottle/can of coke £1.13 £2.19

Has he even been to Turkey the same price for all 3 items he's a Joke

He obviously has an agenda putting Spain as the cheapest place to Holiday this year

Turkey came 7th behind Bulgaria, Portugal, Greece, Dubai & Malta

I don't understand why you are so angry? Let everybody else go to these other places, personally I wouldn't like to see myself fighting through crowds of people in Icmeler, It's lovely just how it is.

because I have never paid £2.19 for a bottle of Efes ever in 8 years of going or £2.19 for a Coffee or Coke

The prices do not reflect a true Representation

Bottle of still water from supermarket Spain £0.36 Marmaris £1.10

not true

they are probably angry for making turkey look expensive. they can charge what they like but you wont feel so welcome in spain as you do in turkey.

I Love Icmeler the way it is but it needs to get busy just to keep going

more & more hotels are going AI so more places will close

I want everyone to know what a Special place this is from April till October not just August

He may not be quoting supermarket prices but bar prices.

Last year a beer in Harmony bar was 6 TL, I was getting 2.32TL/£ = £2.58, other bars 4 TL = £1.72 so £1.80 to £2.19 is not far off and it depends what exchange rate he is using

Can a coke we paid 3TL in our apartments £1.28 not sure in bars as my girls always had drinks in glasses whichwhen large were always more expensive that an Efes.

Never purchased a coffee so can't comment on that.

Finaly did he say which resort did he goto as other resorts are more expensive than Icmeler and if he went to Istanbul he's quoting on the cheap side.

Beer was about 2 quid last year with the exchange rate we got in August. You can get it for half that if you look around though, and coke is about right, in the bars anyway, no matter where you go you get ripped off with soft drinks, it's the same here.

I couldn't see that happening in Icmeler , there are far too many great places to eat , and with the set menus great value to be had. I fully understand some people like to go AI especially families with kids so they can eat and drink as much as they like all day, but you only have to look at all the posts and reviews about all the lovely places to eat, Erik has even started one about 'let's see your lovely meal'( or something like that), so I think there will always be enough custom for the restaurants.
Now I have never looked into it, I may well be better off financially if I did but personally I have never, and would never go AI, eating morning noon and night at the same place for 2 weeks would put me right off, I need the variety and differing atmospheres that each restaurant offers, not to mention the characters that run them.

Well if he went to bar street I think he is quoting on the low side,

maybe he isnt commenting on icmeler or marmaris as someone already said
because istanbul for example is much more expensive
the prices quoted in most places in the brochures etc are rubbish anyway
but who cares turkey is once again the most popular holiday destination of 2011 so it doesnt need any extra good press

Some of the travel supplements are a joke there was one in a well known paper on Friday stating that Antalya was near Patara????? advising people going to Antalya to visit the nearby resort of Patara? i would love to know how far it actually is :)

To be fair some of the prices are not that far off the mark, especially as I assume that these are bar prices

last year the exchange rate was about 2.20 lira to £1. I paid 5 lira for a cappucino in several places in icmeler, either 4 or 5 lira for a bottle of Efes, and a large cola, was around 5 lira.

i have not been to Olu Deniz or other resorts in that area but from what i have read prices are more expensive there than in Icmeler/ marmaris

I dont think the article will put anyone off visiting Turkey
