Prices

Postby geovil » 14 May 2011 03:20

Was speaking to a passenger tonight who has just come back from Turkey and told me that the prices in Turkey are a joke which makes the exchange rate invalid and they are sealing there own downfall trying to take tourists for every thing they can get can anyone let me know if this is true.

Beer £1.20 up to £2.00 a pint of beer

Full English breakfasts from £1.00

5 course chicken meals from £6

5 course steak meals from £8.00

Maybe they should stay in the UK and drink expensive beer or were they expecting prices like India

Petrol here is more expensive than the UK and taxes are high.

I have been told this by many people last year. I think it depends on where you go. I personally wouldn't go anywhere other place in Turkey than Icmeler - our piece of haeven.

I have always found the prices in Turkey reasonable for eating out.
The one thing you cannot compare is the quality and standard of the meals in Turkey.
They put most UK eating places in the shade.

icmeler or turkey in general is not as cheap as it used to be but its still a lot better value for money than anywhere in the eurozone where eating out would cost an absolute fortune for a family
turkey is still good value for what you get

having just arrived back at 2am this morning (very 1st trip to turkey ever...so prices going up arent hugely relevant to me) 4 adults and 2 kids we were eating at the sizzler and our dearest bill with drinks was 135 lira lunch was aroun 60-65 lira but we did also have a dinner bill there of 100 lira so it really varies depending on what you eat, our 135 lira night was 3 steak meals a curry efes and strongbow etc, I really cant complain at the prices I saw around Icmeler though

Hi allyharvell,
Thats not bad for 6, at 2.50 to the pound exchange £54 or £9 each. Bare in mind that it is Set Menu`s that you save on and local beers and spirits. Efes o.k. but Strongbow comes at a premium. It can pay to shop around, but it sounds as though there is not a great increase, due to exchange rate. Long may it continue at this rate or higher.

Little supermarket next to the sizzler was at 2.51 last wednesday but since then exchange shops have jumped to between 2.49 and 2.5 so that may well be up a bit more in the supermarket than what i got on the wednesday so makes it even better value

We had a seven course meal in the Blue Fox last year. I had the bread & mezes starter that they usually provide, followed by tomato soup, main course, apple pie, fruit, coffee and then a lovely liquor. If your main course was chicken the meal was 22 TL, if a steak I think it was 26 TL. There were six of us and we all enjoyed our meals. I hope they're open this year. :)

kirky 20 lira works out at roughly £8 so what is your point you cannot compare the meals you get in Icmeler with here give me a night out in an Icmeler restaurant any day :D
