Can anyone tell me are you supposed to tip the guy who takes you to your room when you arrive at your hotel. If so how much is an appropriate amount :?

Depends on the hotel, where I stay in apartments I don't tip as it's the bar staff who take us and I tip each day when paying my bill, if it's a hotel with porters 5 Lira or give them a pound coin which they will change with uk visitors when they have a few, I did this a few years ago in a bar, a waiter asked if I would give him lira for 10 £1 coins, I did but only at the current exchange rate.

Thats one thing I've never tipped for, never thought of tipping them just for being shown to the room and carrying my cases. I've managed all the way from Manchester with my case and yeah them last few steps to the room is where it really gets difficult thanks! :P ha ha
