Is there much wildlife to photograph?

Postby Chris221273 » 27 Apr 2011 10:21

My niche in photography is wildlife, and have even had a pic in the national geographical magazine in the uk.
So I'm just wondering if there is much in the way of wildlife to tickle my trigger happy finger :-)
Thanks.

The dancing waiters look pretty wild sometimes!

I should not say this on here (sorry guys) but are you sure Icmeler is the right place for you? sounds to me that something like a Safari holiday would be more suitable for you, I have not known of anyone go to Turkey for the wildlife! There are of course the wild boars in the mountains (I shouldnt think near Icmeler though and I wouldnt recommend hunting them down!) and there are Brown bears in eastern Anatolia, The Caracal (also called the Persian Lynx), a small wildcat, survives today in the Taurus Mountains near Antalya, but is in danger of extinction because of uncontrolled hunting. There is also of course deer, wild goats etc but we have deer and goats here in the UK. Wrong place for you methinks? Try kenya, Tanzania or somewhere like that.
Well done for getting photo in the National Geo, you must be good. :)

I'm not coming for the wildlife, far from it.
I was just curious, as I always take my camera with me :-)
The national geo pic was of a dragonfly catching a butterfly in mid flight.
The national geo had heard they eat butterflys, but had never seen proof!
They have now :-)

I was more under the impression that Chris just hoped to photograph any wildlife he happened to come across during his holiday, rather than visiting Icmeler specifically for that purpose. Walking up and around the old village area would probably be the best idea - you often see things like lizards and so on in that area, as well as all the livestock kept by the villagers, such as goats and cows, of course!

Chris

Congratulations on yor photograph entry. As a photographer you will know that there is plenty of wildlife to see if you know where to look. I have seen lots of interesting things in and around Icmeler, and a lot of the photo's are in the photo section to prove it.....such as the heavily laden Donkeys working the early morning shift in the Old Village. the early morning Cockerels again in the village, the Goats up in the mountains or running along the rock paths as viewed from the boat trips.

If you wander through the Old Village early in the morning as things are starting to move and the sun beginning to rise, i am sure you will be able to take some very special photo's away with you.

I believe that there are parts of the Datca Peninsular that are actually bird sanctuaries/reserves. Some one will know for sure

Have a good holiday and don't forget to post whatever you do manage to photograph.

Oh i forgot to mention (sorry Colette) there are of course Ducks on the canal and some one mentioned a Dogs home and some Cats

If you take the coastal walk you come to a small shack/cafe type thing with chickens about the place, the squirrels can be tempted down with bits of food but the chickens normally attack them! Its good to watch them up in the trees anyhow.

Some of the things I have come across are in no particular order

Dolphins, snakes, squirrels, aardvark or (something similar) lizards, cats, dogs, chiuckens, tortoise, herons, storks, wild boar, sea eagles, hawks, buzzards, lots of wild birds too many types to list

There are places where you will find more than others so if you are deciding to hire a car to get out for this then pop into the office and ask for me and I will let you have some directions to places off the beaten track
