1st/9th april

Postby scotslass » 13 Apr 2011 16:14

Just returned from Icmeler last week, had another great week visiting the few places open. Icr office now downstairs and looks great. This is a good time to watch the village wake up though the weather was wet for the 1st few days, it improved as the week went on. we managed a couple of times beside the pool at Greenmar and infact ventured in on 1 occassion.Had some fantastic meals at the Florida restaurant, brilliant service. Dreamboys being rebuilt again though yaya wont be there but Adam will. S hotel under going major refurbishment and I doubt will be open this season. Dream 3 bells is now owned by a lovely couple rhea and cino, former barman of Dreamboys. They want to keep the same atmosphere and style within the restaurant and I am sure their friendliness will ensure a great time for both regulars and newbies alike. Friends restaurant in the main square is being rebuilt, looks as though it will be lovely. Sports bar and love boat both looking great and uaual staff working in both. Venice wasnt open but met the staff around the town and think the usual faces will be working there. The beach front is nearly finished with yellow markings laid down for scooters and bikes etc. It is slightly wider and new sand arriving at the beach. All in all it icmeler is starting to look really pleasant and sure any changes will be to most peoples liking. Roll on July. Nearly forgot Efes ranged between 3.50/4lira but it wasnt busy so prices may go up.

I appologise to anyone reading my review, the S hotel will be fantastic when finished as everything will be brand new. I am sure due to the way the turkish builders work from morning till night they will have the hotel running within time. Didnt mean to alarm anyone sorry.

The exchange shops showed rate of 2.40 which went down to 2.36 but my husband got charged 20 lira when he changed traveller cheque of £100. not so good! So we opted for florida restuarant and got 2.40 all week. Better deal! The supermarket below the Icr offices wasnt open yet to change money at and few places couldnt do it as they didn hold extra cash so early in season. Hope this helps.

came back from alanya on monday
and highest exchange rate we got was 2.41
none of the supermarkets change money there so you have to do it through exchange places
hope this helps

hiya sian
i stayed at greenmar last year for 13 weeks in the summer
its a basic nice clean apartment with a good sized pool and a nice pool bar which gives 10% discount for guests staying at the greenmar
its a good location 5 mins walk from the beach and right in the middle of the town but at the same time not too noisey
good apartments
hope this helps
if you have any other questions please dont hestitate to ask :)

Hi I really Hope the S hotel will be ready as we are booked for 27th August. Is it just the inside that's being refurbished or are they doing structural work as well. I am really intrigued now to find out.Has anyone else got any more information Please .Wonder if Barnie has any pics she can put on for us.
Thank you for the updates

Hi Gail..did take a pic of S Hotel on 22 March. At that time we did think that this would be one that wouldn't be alright on the night. But walking past a couple of nights ago was suprised at how far it had progressed. So I will post pics in next day or so showing 'before' and 'after'. It appears to have been a complete refurbishment, so will be a brand spanking new hotel for you to enjoy. So please don't worry cos the builders over here could rebuild the Taj Mahal, without plans, over a weekend. If you want some more info, or pics, in a few weeks please do not hesitate to get in touch.

Sorry I know this should be in the review section but in answer to the question asked about the Greenmar, We have stayed in various different places within Icmeler, we love the Greenmar and have stayed here 3 times.Never had any hassle at all, not for meals or drinks. The staff despite us not eating in the restuarant have always remain extremely friendly and courtious. There was 6 of us staying this time and our rooms varied in size but all with the same facilities.Last year due to smaller room size and teenage daughter with us we asked to move room, this was dealt with quickly and options were offered to us. The staff are brilliant, usually same but due to army comittments a few changes have taken place. Rooms cleaned everyday, towels changed most days and linen once a week. Due to solar panels the water wasnt very hot, I`m scottish but even being hardy it was chilly. We asked and staff full of appoloiges put on the water heater on the less sunny days. Both times in April we have watched them clean, paint, put in new beds, light fittings etc. Rooms maybe would be considered basic but heck when clean, tidy and great staff are all we are looking for then I would recommend them to anyone.
