There's so many experiences on the site and so many positive things said about Icmeler - so have a real think about this and post your ideas. Is there an experience you wish you could freeze in time or have every day of your life? Is there a taste - say a special cocktail or meal? A person whose company you enjoyed so much you wish you could bring them home?

Me - well it could be the call to prayer but living in Birmingham I've got that. I think my choice would be about 9pm on the beach looking out to the sea - the sparkling water, cool breeze and sounds of the slow waves trickling over my toes. Now I can't get that in Birmingham!

It would be without a doubt waking up on a morning in my hotel after a few vodkas the night before and thinking to myself whilst still half asleep that I have to get up for work and what a boring day I have ahead of me. Then suddenly realizing that I am in Icmeler and really all I have to do is drag myself to the pool where I can chill in the Sun for as long as I want!!! Thats is by far the best feeling ever! :D :D :D

I've got so many things that have made me feel good about icmeler, from the excitment leading up to going, to relaxing by the pool with no worries for a fortnight, and also the feeling of being respected and treated with genuine kindness by the locals.

Sailing off at 10am on a crisp morning in a wee boat called ****' run by ******** (his father Mehmet has a big boat now)

An 11am swim, then back on the boat for hot apple tea, sailing into the jetty for lunch at Amos, massive nan breads, sunbathing & sleeping for a wee while under the trees, back on the boat, another swim before returning to Icmeler for 5pm after a Raki .. with the fabulous Turkish dance music playing through the boat's speakers.

Haud me back .. as they say in Scotland. :)

A memory that will always live with my family is of the times we used to walk along the prom to the Deniz Kapisi.
As we used to round the corner at about 9-30 PM who would be waiting outside the Kapisi but the one and only "Ronaldo"

On seeing Ronaldo Andre used to rush up to him and throw his arms around him and give him a big hug and Ronaldo would utter his immortal words.

"Hello Cheeky Bugger"

The look of joy on Andres face and the pleasure it used to give us will stay with us forever.

Ronaldo has been left Deniz a couple of years now and is married and living in England he also has a little boy.

A simple memory that we will never forget also of a friend that will always be remembered and loved.

for contributing to this topic - I've had goosebumps reading some of them. It's so hard choosing just one isn't it? I asked my daughter the same question - hers was around 4am walking along the beach front hand-in-hand with gorgeous, fit Turks (names withheld as it changed this year!) ...with beautiful big brown eyes. Must try that one myself next time!

After reading all your posts you got me thinking about this one. I suppose because I live and work here and life gets hectic at times, you tend to forget many of the little things that attracted you in the first place. When you think about them there are many things which are special.......

My favourite thing that i capture whenever i can and will keep in my mind forever, is the quietness around 2 or3 in the morning, just sitting on the beach no one around, listening to the sea, looking at the stars and just chilling, before another new day begins. Absolutely wonderful !!

These moments/ memories are really lovely to sit and read. They have cheered me up loads this morning.

While reading all the others on here, I have been trying to work out which is my best moment/ memory about Icmeler. I think my best moment is when the plane touches down at Dalaman airport. Granted you still have a couple of hours until you are actually in Icmeler, what with getting your visa, passport controll, baggage claim, gettig on the right coach outside, waiting for all other passengers to get on the coach and then the journey.

But touching down does it for me. It gives me a warm feeling inside because I know that any minuet now they are going to open the doors I can get my first smell of TURKEY. I dont know if anyone else has ever noticed this, but it is also the same smell that takes up residence on your clothes so when you open your case once home you get one more whaft of this smell.

So all in all, it touch down at Dalaman Airport because of the smell of Turkey.

Love Z

My special moments are first thing in the morning around 7am, while i leave everyone in bed i go for a long walk all along the bay alone, its so peaceful and warm, and i feel so safe.

My first visit last September i was able to watch the sun rise just after 7am each morning, no words can describe the feeling i used to feel i was so sad after two weeks of going through those special moments we had to come home, those moments were bliss. I was there in June so the sun rising was much earlier, but the walks were just as wonderful.

I live in Weymouth by the sea so i am very lucky, but Icmeler has a huge place in my heart now, no doubt many of you feel the same. The people are amazing who treat you with the upmost respect, in 25 sleeps i will be there again for the 3rd time this year, to say i am excited is an understatement. What a wonderful place Icmeler has to offer, we will be visiting freinds we met the first time ........ 31st August cant come quick enough.

There are so many special things about Icmeler, from the first glimpse of the bay as you come up over the hill from Marmaris (yes still get butterfies... even after 10 visits!), to wandering the quiet backstreets and suddenly hearing the call to prayer and to walking down to the beach in the morning and losing track of how many guys setting up their shops for the day say "good morning" with big smiles (why don't you get that in the UK?)

But I suppose my top thing would be sitting at the beach cafe at about 1am - the one on the sea path to Marmaris which overlooks Icmeler bay - the sea like a millpond with all the lights of Icmeler shimmering on the water, hardly anyone else around and sipping a glass of crisp white wine..... Bliss!

Moments to savour, but it's lovely to "take" yourself back there when we're in the depths of winter here.... roll on 21st August!!!!!

This is such a hard question as my answer would be the whole holiday but i know that is not 'allowed'..... So i must change my answer to, sitting around the pool of the SIESTA APARTMENTS drinking the best cocktail ever made from the CHAMPAGNE BAR.... A CRAZY TEEN.... Sooooooo nice.

Has anybody ever had this?....

 Emsie

Mazz,

We've been to the beach cafe and had Turkish breakfast there which was my idea of heaven - but now you've mentioned a nice glass of chilled wine at night I think I am going to have to give it a try on the next visit - roll on the end of September!

i love icmeler so much and i enjoyed my last trip there so much, i just wish i could have just made the whole holiday last forever! there are so many things i love about icmeler, this is a very hard question but if i had to pick one moment it would have to be, the long walks i used to go on, through the old part of icmeler, everynight with this turkish bar man that i became good friends with, especially the one on my last nite of the holiday, it was so quiet with pratically no one around, this was about 3 am. then occasionally stopping to look at the stars. it was just perfect it is hard to put into words, definatly the best time ive ever had on holiday! i miss it all so much!
