Turkey Newbee Help Needed Please

Postby diamond gal » 03 Feb 2011 13:30

Hello Everyone

New member to the forum today :D

Would appreciate any advise please if possible. My mum celebrates her 60th Birthday
and expressed a wish to go to Turkey in September. Have found a new hotel, Hotel Aqua
which looks ideal, flight with Onur.
Can I ask if mosquitors are a huge problem in Icemeler? My mum is an non mozzie friendly
and she swells up horrendously when bitten. Also, if Icemeler relatively flat or is it hilly?

I feel Icemeler looks the best option for my parents, hubby and I will also be tagging along
so whilst we are not party animals anymore (days are long gone) nice to know there is bars
etc which should suit us all.

Thanks

Diamond Gal :)

Hi
It's very flat and the Aqua in very central, plenty of bars and nice walks, very friendly, mossies are there but you can get some good cream from the chemist in the square, it depends when you are going, don't put scent on as it attracts them, have a great holiday. :D

Hi,you do get a few mossies around the canal, but no more than you would in an English garden in the evenings, the Aqua is a nice hotel right on the beach, as for bars there are loads all friendly go try a few and you,ll soon find one that suits you all , we only "found" Turkey 5 years ago and this year will be our 6th visit, Icmeler is lovely and i promise you you,ll want to go back again and again.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I think you have chosen well,we stayed in the hotel next door to the Aqua (L'Etoile) and really wished we had booked the hotel that you are going to,it's right on the beach, not far from plenty of bars and restaurants and a flat walk round most of the resort. There are boat trips from the jetty just next to the Aqua, taxi boats to Marmaris and Turunc .There is also a bus service to these resorts if you prefer. We are staying just outside the main resort in September,we were in Icmeler in August and didn't have a problem with mossies then, hoping we won't in September.Any questions ,fire away ,everybody is friendly on here and will help all they can.

I'm a mozzie magnet and get bitten no matter where I go, but I've not found them to be a huge problem in Icmeler. Spain (Costa del Sol in particular!) was far, far worse. If you use a decent repellent, especially in the evenings, you shouldn't have a problem.

Hi diamond gal
Take a look at viewtopic.php?f=19&t=6091&hilit=around+icmeler+map it will give you an idea of the layout of Icmeler, odd bars and resturants have name changes or closed, but most are still there. Time changes most things but it is still a good reference map. Just find what you want and zoom in.

You will love Icmeler lots of bars and the people are very very friendly they cant do enough for you, and at certain times of the day and early evening you will see the mosquito wagon going round spraying round the trees and bushes with mosquito repellent!! never been bitten yet. and the Aqua is a very good hotel a stones throw from its own private beach and handy for everything. Enjoy :)

It was our 4th visit to icmeler 2 years ago. On the last day or our holiday and for the 1st time our daughter and i ended up covered in bites. Read the advice on the forum about about avon sss we used it last year and didnt get bitten at all.

I use the Avon SSS as well, and I dont have any problems. Only time I had a few bites was when I spent the evening near the canal - but that WAS the night I forgot to put the Avon SSS on :D

I agree about the mosquitos - I'm rarely bitten in Turkey but get eaten alive elsewhere! The good thing is that the pharmacies will sell you anti-histamines that are much stronger than you can get here (even on prescription) and they are very effective.
