Promenade Widening

Postby redrhino12 » 09 Jan 2011 14:42

As most of you are aware a new promenade widening scheme is currently being undertaken in Icmeler.
This is only 2 or 3 years after the first relaying of the new promenade and building of the walls.

This brings me to my point and that is, while in Icmeler last year one or two bar owners were floating the idea of bringing the Segway to Icmeler.
The Segway is already in use in Marmaris and in my opinion are a danger to pedestrians.
But the widening program seems to be that permission may have been granted for these two wheeled machines to be allowed along Icmeler promenade.

I must point out that there is no truth in this story just my obesrvation of unfolding events.

I hope they are not allowed, they will be an accident waiting to happen.

For anyone thinking of hiring one make sure you have insurance because you will be liable if you have an accident and collide with anyone as they are a powered vehicle.

For those who don;t know what a segway is:-

Completely agree, if Rami is going to a council meeting maybe he could bring our concerns up.

hmmm worrying and Rami, please feel free to share my concerns too if you're at a council meeting

the only time we've seen these in Icmeler is for the past couple of years in August as part of some trade/advertising event on the spare land next to tansas
Really hope they don't get used on the promenade

Definetly an accident waiting to happen with these. When we visited Marmaris one evening last September along Longbeach there was lots of people whizzing along on them weaving in and out of people walking along the front, very dangerous, they really go at some speed !! Its bad enough with people on their bicycles !!

will surely bring this issue up but as you all know, having laws or strictions in Turkey is one thing, having them implemented is another...Scooters should not be able to enter these promenades at all but they still do...Anyhow, like I said, I will surely be your voice at the next meeting and pass on the print out of this topic.

Have a great day

The introduction of the one wheeled bike called the Uno may also make an apearence on Icmeler promenade.
The principle is similaire to the segway.

from what i have seen over the years if they keep on changing the prom and sea front it will look more like disneyland than ichmeler dont change things just for the sake of change. as regards the segways just tell the mayor you like them and he will ban them job done ha ha. :D )

Hope you don't include motorised scooters for the disabled. If the segways use their own lane I hope that this doesn't mean that powered wheelchairs and scooters have to use the same one as this would be really dangerous. We travel at 4mph which is slower than a lot of people walk. One of the main attractions of Icmeler is that it is a 'laid back' resort, Segways would ruin this.

It seems quite frightening for these segways to come to Icmeler, we have been visiting for many years and the attraction of easy wheelchair access in the town was always one of the attractions, we are very worried that this will be a cause of concern when we visit in May, can you imagine being confronted with these things whizzing along with my wife in her wheelchair, Please Rami do all you can to stop this happening.
