Clay pot

Postby jane » 08 Jan 2011 09:31

Dear All
A long time since I have posted anything on here. I keep browsing the site and I must admit Icmeler is looking very nice. We didn't visit this year as we went to Ovachik for a change, we wish we hadn't :-( It was not a patch on Icmeler, the place nor the people.
Anyway while we were in Ovachik we had a meal done in a clay pot, not sure if the restaurants were doing them in Icmeler this year, never seen it before. Well It was lovely, I have since bought a clay pot and tried to find reciepe to do one back home but have not been able to do it like the Turks. If anyone out there has a reciepe or knows what the dis is called so I could search for it i would be appriciated.
What I did was very nice and tasty but there just seeemd to be something missing, i.e the sauce.gravy.
I will keep browsing the pictures people have put on here incase I see one.
Thanks for your time
Jane

My wife had a very nice meal in Ozzie's in the old town that was done a sealed clay pot and they bring it out and brake it open with a mallet at you table. It was called a Testi Kebab. It was a mixture of lamb, mushroom, tomato and local herbs and spices.

Rew is correct, it is called a Testi Kebab - lots of the restaurants in Icmeler do it, although my daughter also had it at Ozzy's and declared it absolutely delicious!

Testi is the name and about 10-12 years ago they were all the rage in resorts over Turkey so looks like they are making a comeback.

lots of show for someone looking for a nice meal

Thanks Dave

I have seen tht recipe. What baffles me is where does the sauce/gravy come from?

I have spoken to Patrick off the beach and his recipe was very much the same

Here is another recipe

http://www.semilicious.com/turkish-hotp ... dir-kebab/

Looks like the gravy will be from the olive oil, tomatoes and juices from the meat.
